Well known and it's no secret that Trout would love to play in Philly for the Phillies, he grew up a Phillies fan...a die hard Phillies fan at that (along with his family). Dude was drunk raging out with everyone else in the parking lots in 2008 when they won the world series lmao

Anyways, there's no way he's going to say "nah i'm good" to a record breaking deal like this only to risk injury for the next 1-2 years before testing free agency. Nobody in their right mind would do that. Lock yourself in for $430M and never worry about money again. Playing for your favorite team growing up and being near your family would be great, but not pass up on $430M great lol.

So I ask you to show me where he mentioned anything about Philly and all you give me was blah blah blah blah, gotchya.

Idgaf where he is from. That narrative is so worn out in sports tbh.. not all players have interest in playing in their home city. Sure, the Phillies were his favourite team growing up but that shit changes when you become a professional athlete dude. Players don’t just hold onto that shit for their careers lmao. You’re literally referencing a 2008 World Series championship as your proof? Uh ok..

Whatever helps you sleep at night man. I bet he didn’t even give Philly a thought at all. (This deal just proves he didn’t - no opt out). He’s not the kind of player, nor person to jump ship and pair up with another star player anyways.

I know you're just popping your head in to read and learn about these players because of the big deals, but it's well known that Trout has talked about Philly and even thrown out (indirectly) saying it would be cool to one day play for the Phillies, etc. Obviously as with any professional athlete there are tampering restrictions and things he is told he can't say for PR purposes (and to keep LA happy as well of course). He never flat out said YEAH I'LL BE PLAYING IN PHILLY SOON GUYS lmao

Nobody ever said he was going to abandon his team just to play for a team he grew up following. Like I said, NOBODY is turning down $430M right now. Nobody. Of course guys want to play certain places, but when that contract is thrown in your face and you're set for life things look a bit different.

He's 27 now, if he wanted to play here (or anywhere else for that matter) he would have to wait until he was 29 to hit FA and that leaves a TON of risk of injury or something major that could happen in the meantime. Who the fuck would risk $400+ million for that? Take the money now and secure yourself for life.

Lmao man, i'm done with you. You're comical brah. I've literally been posting in the Angels Fan thread for yearssss.. but you've got your head so far up your ass with anything Philly related that you're blind to the world..

Why are you explaining to me why he took the contract? I never once brought up the contract or replied to your comments about the contract.. You're sitting here arguing with yourself with regards to that.. That has nothing to do with what we're talking about DM. Are you like fully blown ADD or just so used to backpedaling and rambling on about things that you get a little carried away at times?

"Harper did not want to play in Philly"

That's why he turned down the Dodgers 4 year offer of $45M per year ($20M more per year than the Phillies offered), which would have put him back into free agency still in his prime at 30 years old and able to sign another massive contract then.

And then proceed to sign a 13 year deal with Philly that has no opt-out opportunities at all and a team friendly AAV that gives the Phillies a lot of flexibility to make big moves in the coming years again.

Bryce Harper's deal isn't even in the top ten of average annual MLB salaries in history, when factoring for inflation. The Phillies have a ton of cap space to play with too still because of how his contract is stretched.

Also, just disregard the fact that Trout is just one of three All-Stars that the Phillies acquired this off-season, and one of the other ones is one of his best friends.
