if tebow gets a contract best believe im holding an open workout next spring
He looked awful shagging balls in the outfield and throwing it back into the infield. But if I were a general manager of an American League team I'd be intrigued with him as a pure DH, maybe a little first base, at some point. He has an impressive power swing that is hard to teach.
Tim Tebow will likely need a few years in the minor leagues to improve his hitting against breaking balls and off-speed pitches. All he can do right now is crush a fastball. So I'm guessing he'll be 31 or 32 years old by the time he's Major League ready.
Garry Sheffield, who spent 22 years in the Major Leagues and was a 9-time all star. One of the best hitters of our generation. He was on the Dan Patrick show saying that he works out with Tim Tebow regularly, and he says that Tim Tebow has one of the best swings he has ever seen in the batting cages. A pure natural hitter as he called it.
Sheffield believes that Tim Tebow can succeed as a professional baseball player and it's not too late at 29 years old.
Age is only a number. When the Astros signed 32-year-old Yulieski Gurriel people laughed at the signing. So far he's hitting .318 only 22 MLB at-bats. It's too early to judge him but he obviously can hit if you watch his quick swing and intimidating "Julio Franco like" batting stance. I'm always under the impression that if you can hit you will have good value as a DH regardless of age in the American League. Whether or not you can find a good defensive fit.
Obviously it's not the same talking about a long-time Cuban star who has played baseball all of his life. Had Tim Tebow not played football and just stuck to baseball since high school, he would likely be an MLB veteran at this point. There were some scouts that believed Tim Tebow had a better swing when he played in high school than former Major League star Prince Fielder.
I would love to see the Houston Astros sign Tim Tebow and play him with the Corpus Christi Hooks in Double-A. That would probably be a fun 200-mile drive down there just to watch him. He's the type of athlete we should be rooting for. Guys like him appreciate the opportunities. His Christian background and work ethic is inspiring to many people. I don't think he's doing it for any other reason than just the love for the game.
TL:DR - I hope some team signs Tim Tebow to a minor league contract. I'm pulling for him.
