Uh...

Besides just the 2007 season where they won 89 games and the division...

2008 - 92 wins, Division title, World Series Champions.
2009 - 93 wins, Division title, National League Champions and another W.S. appearance
2010 - 97 wins, Division title, best record in MLB
2011 - 102 wins, Division title, best record in MLB

But please, tell us again how they were "just monsters of the NL East"

Cliff, Werth, Papelbon, etc.

But for the most part, over the 5 year stretch where the Phillies were doing extremely well they had absolutely no need to go out and spend to bring in a superstar on a mega contract. For one, because they already had their star core (built through the draft) with huge contracts. Utley, Howard, Hamels, Rollins, etc all home grown talent.

But make no mistake about it, they're more than willing to spend obviously as we have seen (went out and got Cliff Lee in free agency for huge money when they already had Halladay and Hamels). They had the second highest payroll in baseball just a few years ago, and will spend big when it comes time to actually contend. And with a new TV contract in place, and literally zero financial tie-downs in the coming years they could hand out multiple mega-deals and not even break a sweat rolf.

Essentially a clean slate at the moment. Much like the Sixers showing patience, they don't want to try and overpay in free agency just yet until they know what they have with a core. Building through the draft, and not through free agency.

This lineup is painful to watch though. Outside of a couple nice pieces, it's a total joke and we're lucky to score 2 runs on any given night lmfao.

The youngins need to hurry up, especially JP Crawford can't wait to see him get the call. Looking good in the minors, very good. Can only take so much of watching Freddy Galvis...

I have noticed the flyers easily get free agents when the fan base is notorious for being awful for opposition

was curious if it's the same for phillies

I love making fun of the Phillies as much as the next guy but they can be a good team in a few years.
