a run saved = a run earned
it doesnt matter whether its offense or defense, if you make your team a run better, its the same thing. i know you only think baseball in terms of homeruns and rbi, but the people who make the big financial decisions are smarter than that. you can question the contract all you want and look stupid, but that doesnt change the fact hes worth it. move along.
