He's not on the Cubs to be their best hitter. He's there for defense and to get on base. They have plenty of sluggers. It's really and easy concept to understand.

Hes one of those guys who only understands runs/hrs/rbis for hitters and wins for pitchers.

On a team with rizzo, Bryant, zobrist, schwarber, and a ton of other great hitters, he very well could be their 5th best hitter.

And he's so much better defensively than any other player at his position that he'll still return positive value.

On pace for 3.5ish WAR, one of his worst seasons ever.
Babip is down, line drive rate up, still has 7 DRS so far this year.

For a player who makes his living on being a defensive God... His bat will come around.

E: also just saw he's never been great in April / May

Is he hitting better than .218? Was that a typo? is .218 now considered good?

As I said early on. He's great defensively, but his bat just sucks.

Jose Inglesias, amazing glove, mediocre hitting. That's why he makes $2 million a year and not $20 million like heyward.

How many wins above replacement Is iglesias worth per year over the last 4 years? How bout heyward?

This isn't fantasy baseball. A run saved = a run scored.

I know that Heyward goes 1/5 on average and that isn't very good... and when he does hit it, it doesn't go very far, hence his power numbers.

Someone lmk why a .268 career hitter with limited power is on a 8year/184m contract.

Thanks

a run saved = a run earned

it doesnt matter whether its offense or defense, if you make your team a run better, its the same thing. i know you only think baseball in terms of homeruns and rbi, but the people who make the big financial decisions are smarter than that. you can question the contract all you want and look stupid, but that doesnt change the fact hes worth it. move along.
