are these 2 guys seriously trying to claim harper isnt deserving of the award because the rest of his team fell flat on its face and his manager is one of the all time worst?

so because harper couldnt keep strasburg, rendon, and span healthy, teach his bullpen how to not blow a shitload of leads, get fister to pitch right, and not allow desmond to have his worst season to date, hes not deserving of the MVP?

he did everything in his power and more to unanimously win that award, and anyone who thinks otherwise probably values RBI for batters and wins for pitchers more than anything else.

How am I supposed to prove your misunderstanding of the award wrong?

Arrieta: 8.7 WAR, 3,630,000 salary
Bryce Harper: 9.9 WAR, 2,500,000 salary

Harper provided 1.2 more Wins than Arrieta AND was paid less per win.

Harper is more valuable than Arrieta in every sense. Just because Washington didn't make the playoffs doesn't diminish his value. You're basically saying every player on teams that don't make the playoffs is worthless. Which is fucking stupid.

You're also have no idea what would of happened if Arrieta didn't pitch out of his mind in the 2nd half. How can we assume that whoever pitched in his place wouldn't have allowed the Cubs to win those games? Maybe their ERA wouldn't have been 1.5, but who says it needs to be for the Cubs to win all those games? Maybe Chicago had Bostons version of Rich Hill in their system. Nobody knows and will never know. Doesn't make 90% of all players worthless because they don't make the playoffs...

cubs had rich hill at one time. he pitched good for 1...maybe 1 1/2 seasons, then turned awful and couldnt throw strikes.

cubs spent all their drafts on top tier hitters

we wouldn't have thrown dan haren out there if there was a decent prospect ready for the majors.

Harper was also a top tier defensive player.
Most valuable = best player.

Mets fan chiming in to say Harper deserved the award.
He towered over everyone else statistically. The dude was a monster.

I don't buy into the 'only winning teams can have valuable players' line of thought. Its not a team award.

Dave Cameron from fangraphs had this to say about the race:
Quote
#1. Bryce Harper, OF, Washington

Harper’s been the best player in baseball this year, carrying a team that was a dumpster fire nearly everywhere except right field. The team was a disappointment, and won’t be playing in October, but that’s in spite of Harper’s efforts to make up for the uninspired play of his teammates, not because of it. And yes, I believe there is value in every win, even ones that don’t result in a playoff berth. This is an individual award, and no individual stood out more in 2015 than Harper. I’m sure he’d much rather have had a winning season, but he played like a winner this year, and deserves recognition for his own achievements.

Dave got a vote for MVP last year and a vote on the CY young this year.

He had CY/2nd place MVP as a virtual tie between Arrieta/Kershaw/Grienke but ended up giving Arrieta #1 after a whole lot of rationalizing and flip flopping.

If you want a sneaky way to discredit the award to Harper look at WPA and clutch statistics.

I agree he wasnt good defensively and he was way off base there.
