Lmao benny...
None of that gives a 22 year old the right to not run out a play. Get a grip brah...
You think because he's great that means he's allowed to give up? No, he doesn't have that level of respect yet...he hasn't been great long enough. You should never not run the play out, but at least older vets get a pass.
Papelbon has been around a lot longer, and has been in a winning culture. He's a complete jerk, but he knows what a winning club looks like. And it doesn't look like a team letting their 22 year old coddled superstar lightly jog down the bases giving up..
Obviously he should have handled it differently, but he had every right to be annoyed at Harper not hustling.
You're full of shit. Harper turns so many singles into doubles and doubles into triples due to his effort and willpower. He works harder and wants to win as much or more than anyone in that clubhouse. As bandito said earlier, this entire thing stemmed from what happened in the machado at bat with papelbon. Papelbon then was looking for anything to fuck with Harper about, and Harper wasn't going to have a loudmouth clubhouse cancer give him shit in the dugout.
Neither are particularly right for what they did, but if you want to show a young player how it's supposed to be in the mlb, you don't show him up and pick a fight with him in front of everyone. If anyone is more wrong, it's the guy who's a veteran presence who's been there/done that, not the 22yr old soon to be mvp who's the only reason his team isn't 20games under .500.
Papelbon can be annoyed with harper for lack of hustle on a play and going to the media, but the way he handled it escalated the entire thing.
