Papelbon was angry because Harper complained about him putting a purpose pitch in Machado's ribs. Harper said something to a reporter about how it was dumb that he hit Machado and he himself would probably get hit the next day.

Papelbon took offense to Harper putting it in the media when it should have been a clubhouse issue.

Papelbon is a big old faggot. Harper is going to be one of the greatest players ever.

I'm glad that younger players don't give a fuck about a hitter watching a home run; hopefully the purpose pitch goes away with assholes like Papelbon.

Papelbon is a complete dick, but regardless he's right to be mad.....Harper is 22 years old dude hasn't earned the right to not run it out...

You do that shit when you're in your 30's and you have a 10+ year great career behind you. Then people will let it go, but when you're 22 you can be Superman and people aren't going to let you slide with that lazy shit. Especially when you're as incredibly arrogant and known to be a complete jerkoff like Harper is (no surprise considering how coddled he has been his entire life).

It's essentially piece of shit vs piece of shit. Both of them have huge egos and think their shit doesn't stink, so it's no surprise they clashed.

As annoying as Papelbon is, you gotta laugh at how many zero fucks he gives about speaking his mind. Dude is wild, not afraid to challenge anyone.

Kid is going to be the third person since the year 2000 to lead the league in BA/OBP/SLG... joining Miggy and Bonds.
He's going have the highest OPS of any player since Bonds

It's game 155 of a virtually mathematically finished season for the Nats. He's played 1,200 more innings than Papelbon.
Papelbon doesn't have the right to say ANYTHING about Harper running it out.

Lmao benny...

None of that gives a 22 year old the right to not run out a play. Get a grip brah...

You think because he's great that means he's allowed to give up? No, he doesn't have that level of respect yet...he hasn't been great long enough. You should never not run the play out, but at least older vets get a pass.

Papelbon has been around a lot longer, and has been in a winning culture. He's a complete jerk, but he knows what a winning club looks like. And it doesn't look like a team letting their 22 year old coddled superstar lightly jog down the bases giving up..

Obviously he should have handled it differently, but he had every right to be annoyed at Harper not hustling.

You're full of shit. Harper turns so many singles into doubles and doubles into triples due to his effort and willpower. He works harder and wants to win as much or more than anyone in that clubhouse. As bandito said earlier, this entire thing stemmed from what happened in the machado at bat with papelbon. Papelbon then was looking for anything to fuck with Harper about, and Harper wasn't going to have a loudmouth clubhouse cancer give him shit in the dugout.

Neither are particularly right for what they did, but if you want to show a young player how it's supposed to be in the mlb, you don't show him up and pick a fight with him in front of everyone. If anyone is more wrong, it's the guy who's a veteran presence who's been there/done that, not the 22yr old soon to be mvp who's the only reason his team isn't 20games under .500.

Papelbon can be annoyed with harper for lack of hustle on a play and going to the media, but the way he handled it escalated the entire thing.
