My 2 faggot friends bailed on me last minute, so I just went to a local free 9 hole course quick instead. Lame as fuck.

On your knees now, prag.

Dream on, farmer boy

Most courses are free. Some of the higher end ones (like Mont du Lac) charge a fee of between 5-10 bucks for a day. Great semi casual sport that lets you enjoy being outside. I love being outside, so I fell in love with the sport right away.

Yeah, I just have a normal frisbee... what frisbee should I get?

Pretty much what TkM said, but I personally use Discraft discs the most. Even though there are 3 different basic types of discs (drivers, midranges, putters), it's not a terrible idea for you to start with just one stable midrange just until you get the hang of throwing. One of my buddies that I recently taught how to play caught on incredibly fast using that method. Another advantage to starting that way is you don't have to invest much into the sport before knowing how much you'll like it. If you go this route, I would recommend you start with a Buzzz by Discraft. They come in a few types of plastic, but the Flex type of plastic is really soft and grippy, so it's easy to handle and stays in the basket a lot like a good putter. A Buzzz Flex will only cost you about $14.

I need to buy a mid and putter. I actually found a boss in the woods the other day, unmarked. Haven't tossed it yet

Never thrown a Boss myself, but a couple of my buddies like theirs. Get a Buzzz Flex if you don't already have one. Super versatile; works as a midrange, fairway driver, can hold short hyzers and anni's, even works well for putting. For some reason I've been shitting it out of my hands recently, but it's usually one of my most used/consistent discs.

Shouldn't someone who specializes more in ultimate frisbee be proficient in backhand throws? That seems backwards.

Severely hyper extended it/potential ligament strain. I was cutting, planted my knee gave out and couldn't run hard for 5 months.

Also most times in ultimate you are forced to throw forehand, so he may just not throw backhand that often. Even still, he may need to just add more distance to it. I can barely play handler because my backhand can go 3/4 of the field. Usually you would want to be able to throw further than that.
