what do you mean it doesn't mean shit lol.....we had 5 days post-world series to re-sign him before this happened. AKA literally 0-chance he would've came back..

this at least gives us the possibility of letting him get wined and dined then returning to the mets

I actually think the 5 days post world series would actually have helped us out, because it would force Alderson to make him an offer that he can't refuse.

I mean of course its beneficial, but lets be honest...

As Mets fans we're conditioned to believe every good player we have may walk in FA, which may ring true for Cespedes who likes the Tigers alot, and is the perfect five tool player to slot in any system.

I hope we retain him, but Alderson doesn't dole out those type of contracts anymore. If we won the world series, it would be amazing, but I feel like Cespedes market value will only rise by 20 million more.

I'll gladly take a world series over cespedes returning....lol

also:
*ignoring the possibility of cespedes wanting to return to the mets after winning a ring with them*

anyways, this is contract clause waiver is good news. Now let's get back to business and make the playoffs.

Yup yup.

Also just because you win a ring with a team doesn't mean you come back. There have been many examples of player who left WS teams for money.

Its all about the money, especially for Cespedes.

Lets win this game tonight.

Would you be opposed to a Harvey for Bogaerts trade?

why is collins insisting on batting murph 3rd

imo the best lineup:

granderson
murphy/wright
cespedes
duda
murphy/wright
d'arnaud
conforto
flores
pitcher

I honestly don't see him coming back, and I think Alderson will find the right team with the right assets as he once did with R.A. Dickey, (who I wouldn't be opposed to bringing back btw,) and hopefully its not the Yankees or a NL east division team.

I can understand the frustration but it makes no sense to trade Harvey.
Hes young, one of the best pitchers in the game, and under team control for peanuts.
Despite the expectation that he should sacrifice his health for the team coming off of TJ, pitching too much his first year back is a legitimate concern so i give him a bit of leeway here. Hes planning on pitching in the playoffs if we make it, so idrc.

Dickey we sold extremely high on. He was coming off the CY young year.
Bringing him back at age 41 when hes had some pretty mediocre years makes little sense when we have all this great young pitching under control for next to nothing.
Hes also somewhat likely to have his 12M option picked up if he continues his strong 2nd half.
I'd only consider it if we end up needing a 5th man and hes very cheap somehow.(extremely unlikely)

Funnily enough over at PSD they were complaining about the lineup too. I just came back from there.

Murph early makes sense against the righty.
Hes hitting .294 against them, with a .804 OPS.

He alternated lefties and righties, and the lineup typically is nearly statistically meaningless aside from that. Even over the course of a full year the effect is very very small.
