passan was asked and said he wasnt sure

g'damn if they lose that case.
lost your #1 pick and fifth rounder, #2 pick for next year (and prolly another 1st round pick since thats a compensation pick), and most likely a top 5 pick the following year.
ouch.

I blame our owner Jim Crane if we can't sign Brady Aiken. There is nothing medically wrong with him but of course the Astros had to try and find a reason to shorten his signing bonus. Still not sure why they drafted the high school kid thinking he was the next Clayton Kershaw. Even if he is we won't know for three, four, maybe five years down the road. He's 17 years old. I wanted Carlos Rodon, who the White Sox ended up stealing at three. And they signed him without any problems. We'll see Rodon in the show sometime next year if not by the end of this year.

Figures they didn't sign him. I was taking a nap for the past few hours as the deadline passed.

The near-term upshot is that the Astros will be compensated with the No. 2 overall pick in next year's draft (in addition to what figures to be another high pick based on their 2014 season at the MLB level), and Aiken will presumably now honor his commitment to UCLA and re-enter the draft after three seasons.

I hope the Astros start to tank and finish with the worst record. Worse than the Rangers and Diamondbacks. We'll have the top two picks in the 2015 draft. LOL

Astros and Diamondbacks both have 56 losses. The Rangers have 57 losses.

So we're tired for the second worst record as of now. Either way, we're guaranteed a second overall pick because of the Brady Aiken fiasco. I want the first overall pick in the 2015 draft as well. We shouldn't have swept the Rangers recently. But we should get swept by the White Sox starting tonight to be back on track.

I expect a healthy losing streak for the Astros starting tonight.

@JeffPassan: Scary Astros possibility: If Nix wins grievance to pay agreed-upon $1.5M, Houston 17% over bonus pool, would forfeit next two 1st-rd picks.

That was obviously written about an hour before the Brady Aiken deadline. They wouldn't be over the bonus pool now. Doesn't matter if he wins grievance or not.

There is nothing to worry about now. It turned out to be a wasted 2014 first overall pick which will be re-compensated with the second overall pick in the 2015 draft, along with the high pick they'll end up - would be the third overall pick as of now - hopefully the Rangers start to win and the Astros start to lose for the first overall pick as well.

Ah, they spent Brady Aiken's slot money on two other picks that's why. We'll see.

They had to have spent less than $14,030,100 to avoid that penalty.

Good article here talking about it but it was two days ago. Before they signed a few more players.

The Astros have a brilliant GM, a great CEO. The problem is their owner wants to nickel and dime everything.

Do the White Sox struggle this bad at home? Astros already lead 2-0 in the middle of the 2nd.

I thought for sure the White Sox would easily win tonight. Typical Astros. Playing well enough when it doesn't even matter.

There is no way we're going to finish with a worse record than the Rangers playing like this. We're already out of playoff contention. It's going to be another long three months after the all-star break. I just want the playoffs to start in October. Another miserable season out of the way.

Assuming the Astros aren't penalized with two first-round picks for going over their 2014 slotted draft pool money (I doubt it), they'll probably end up with the second and third overall picks. The Rangers are going to end up with the first pick in the 2015 draft. I gave up hope on that for now.

apparently his ligament (iono which one, whichever was under fire) was pune as hell, and they were worried about him needing surgery in the next few years.
not that he was actually hurt at all, just scurred.
