His splitter... one of the best in the majors. I really hope he gets his slider going.

So Pineda struck out 4 in two inning of work. I have no idea how he looked because the game wasn't broadcasted anywhere but I have to think he was really good considering one of his strikeouts was of Miguel Cabrera. I promised myself I wouldn't count on Pineda for anything this year but man, if we get a healthy Pineda, it could be just as huge as the Tanaka signing.

It was mentioned on lookout landing that it would be funny if Pineda was traded back for Nick Franklin.

I haven't read LL since Jeff Sullivan left. That man is the best writer of online baseball.

Banuelos finally pitched in a game. Although it didn't go too well, his velocity was at 92-94 which is great for ST(great anytime tbh). A couple good months at AAA can shoot him back into the top quarter of all prospects in baseball. That is hardly a given though, since control is an issue sometimes coming back from TJS.

So many if's right now, but if the if's go our way, could be a spectacular season.

Injuries - Jeter and Teix recovery, Gardner and Ellsbury risks, Pineda's health, Beltran's age, CC's horrid last season, Hirok's drop-off from beginning to end of last two seasons, Tanaka's beast mode pans out, McCann, etc..

I don't see what the if is about McCann. The guy is a monster.

All the others are legitimate concerns but the ones I'm most worried about are the infield and the bullpen. I don't have the slightest doubt that K-Rob can close but every other inning before the 9th will probably be an adventure. As good as Kelley was last season, he will never be a shutdown reliever because of how homerun prone he is. Outside of him, your next best reliever in Matt Thornton? Unless Phelps, Warren, and Betances step up big time, the bullpen will be problematic all season.

My infield concerns are not tied to Jeter at all. He looks completely recovered from that injury. I love Kelly Johnson but his ideal role would have been a super utility guy, not the everyday 3B. Brian Roberts is a ticking time bomb. Teix is recovering from one of the worst injuries a power hitter can get.
