Saw the early parts of the game where CC started and Hirok came in but had to leave to go to a winery. How was his fastball velocity?

Velocity was fine. 90-94 and he even got some swings and misses with it. He wasn't scared to go high and tight with his fastball either. It doesn't have a ton of movement but it looked like it was sneaky fast because the hitters were reacting late to it. He threw a few cutters and one really good two seamer too.

Thought his velocity was a little higher than than advertised anyway, thought he was clocked in the 94-96 range but maybe I read that wrong, or perhaps it's obviously Spring Training so he's just getting his arm warmed up.

No, he sits 90-94 but can reach back for 96-98 when he needs it.

Here's the two seamer I was mentioning earlier. It can be a really effective weapon for him against LHB. It starts in the middle of the plate and ends up on the outside corner for a strike. Recipe for getting ahead in the count and a lot of weak contact.

Here's what I was talking about when I said his fastball was "sneaky fast". This one is probably a cut fastball actually but look how late he was and it was only 89mph.

This was the only decent slider he threw that day and I doubt a decent player actually swings at that pitch. Really want to see how his slider pans out.

Tanaka starting today. Make sure you're watching.

It's in rain delay right now.
