Pudge officially retired, can finally do his time to get in the HOF.
2nd-best catcher in history imo, only behind Bench.

Pudge played in an offensive era and undoubtly used steroids. Yogi played before the pitching mound was lowered.

Pudge's offense was the weakest part of his game, and he's still up there with all the greats at catcher. He blows everyone away defensively. I mean the dude had 13 gold gloves.
I'll take a defensive-minded catcher who can control the running game and bats at a career .290 avg every day of the week.
he also ended his career with the most hits as a catcher, which shouldn't be affected by steroids.

Absolutely is. Steroids don't only mean more power, it means more bat speed as well.

Yogi wasn't a bad defender himself. Though none of us saw him play, he ranked up at the top in the league during his playing days too.

I'm not saying Pudge is bad or anything, he's just not Yogi.

you can't compare anybody to Pudge defensively. I'm not big into the metrics or anything, but i'm sure those things will show Pudge was by far the best

He was great, but you can't say he's top 2 all time just because of his defense. When ranking players all-time, you have to consider everything. If Pudge had been 100% clean his entire career, then it's an argument to be made.

Guys like Bonds, and Clemens fall under the same principle. Numbers wise, Bonds is probably the best player of all time (other than Ruth), but you got to look deeper than just numbers IMO

catcher is the only position where defense matters more than offense, and it's not a certainty that Pudge did roids. the only thing he's been linked to is Canseco's book. never failed a test and his body's held up pretty damn well if he took steroids that early in his career.
I guess we'll find out if he took steroids if the HOF voters keep him out and he isn't a first-ballot entrant
