He literally turned down an offer from the LA Dodgers worth $45M per year, which would have been the highest AAV in MLB history.

Phillies already added two current all-stars this off-season(Segura & Realmuto) before even signing Harper, in addition to adding McCutchen and David Robertson too.

Phillies were already a .500 team last year before all of these moves, and that was just with their young home grown core which was a result of their rebuild phase. Now this team should certainly be 90+ wins and it wouldn't surprise me if they sniffed 100. Starting pitching needs a bit more depth for sure, but overall this line up is going to fucking RAKE this year.

As long as you don't change your name to Harper or Phillies, they will be fine

Buy it? Not even close

Phillies been brewing a nice young team for years now with one of the best farm systems in baseball. They traded for Realmuto and Segura with home grown pieces.

They rebuilt for the last several years and were patient with a low payroll and finally opened up the check book. People forget this is a large market team that had a payroll near $200M during the Utley/Howard/Rollins/Holiday/Lee/etc years.

Harper choose money over winning. What a surprise.

Pretty much this.

It's like no one learned anything from watching Carmelo.

Cant blame him though

If I had the option to set myself up, family up, kids up, and potentially grandkids off of one signing, I would do so
