Matt Dominguez just sailed a throw 30 feet past first base. LOL, nothing is going right tonight.
Matty-D is usually a solid infielder also. He only had one error this season prior to that bad throw.

Brett Olberholtzer is already at 70 pitches thrown in the top of the 3rd. 6 runs allowed, 4 unearned.
He's going to drop to 0-4 on the season despite pitching well, besides tonight, but not much you can do.

The Astros just can't catch any breaks against the Athletics. It's like watching a bad movie knowing very well what's going to happen.

The Athletics won the series opener, 10-1. I'm sure it's just one of a potential four-game sweep.

This division matchup is such a laughable and lopsided affair. Athletics are 4-0 against the Astros this year and they went 15-4 against the Astros last year during our first year in the American League West. The only bright spot for the Astros tonight was Jose Altuve's three-hit game.

Tomorrow night's pitching matchup: Brad Peacock (0-2, 6.14 ERA) versus Jesse Chavez (1-0, 1.38 ERA)

Should be another Athletics blowout. Peacock is without a doubt our worst pitcher. I'd rather call up Mark Appel right now just to start in his place. Or at least until Scott Feldman comes off the DL. Collin McHugh has a chance to stay in the starting rotation if he pitches a good game against the Athletics on Sunday afternoon. His first Astros start at Seattle was sensational: 3-hit shutout and 12 strikeouts in 6.2 innings. But the Athletics lineup is another animal entirely.

Assuming we lose tonight and tomorrow, we'll need some McHugh magic on Sunday afternoon.
I think we'll win that game against Oakland to avoid the four-game sweep. Trying to be positive.

We need to keep weeding out the players who aren't performing, like Brad Peacock, tonight's starter, in favor of some guys who can get the job done.

Astros were down 5-1 in bottom of the 4th but just put up a 4-spot against Jesse Chavez thanks to a huge throwing error by Josh Donaldson at third base. All tied up 5-5. Come on, Astros. Don't tease me like this. Try to win tonight's game. Our bullpen can't be bad forever if it's a close ballgame late. Jose Altuve is already 2-for-3 tonight, another multi-hit game for him.

On Sunday is our best chance. If we can ride that McHugh magic a little longer and he doesn't turn out to be a fluke. Three errors doomed the Astros tonight. Game was tied 5-5 in the top of the 9th and Oakland just put up a 7-spot and took a 12-5 lead. Our bullpen is pathetic but our defense didn't do them any favors. Josh Fields got tagged with 5 earned runs and Anthony Bass with 2 earned runs in that top of the 9th. Surprisingly all of the runs were earned despite a costly throwing error by George Springer

see, told u. unknowns get charged with ERs while established pitchers like king felix dont get charged with ANY ERs even over 1 debatable error. (that i may add didnt lead to any runs until later when he fucked up and couldnt get batters out)

also, astros not doing as terrible as i thought, got like 8 more wins than i thought they'd have by now.
yes, i know they have only 7. i was thinking -1 and 24.

The Astros have sent 2013 top overall pick Mark Appel to extended spring training, Jose de Jesus Ortiz of the Houston Chronicle reports (Twitter links). The Astros say Appel isn’t injured, and they attribute his struggles to his adjustments to their tandem rotation system, but GM Jeff Luhnow calls Appel’s performance so far “a little unsettling.” Appel has posted a 6.23 ERA with 13 strikeouts and four walks so far with Class A+ Lancaster. Here are more notes from the West divisions.

Somehow and someway we find ourselves as the worst team in baseball this morning.

http://espn.go.com/mlb/standings/_/group/9

The 8-18 Diamondbacks passed us with a .308 winning percentage while the 7-17 Astros are at a .292 winning percentage.

And as you mentioned, Mark Appel was sent down for extended spring training after a horrendous minor league start.
Such a setback for him. He pitched our final exhibition game about a month ago and was very solid. We'll see though.

If we keep losing we may as well try to tank and get the first overall pick in the 2015 MLB draft next June as well. I'm only kidding or am I? LOL. But I'm ready for June 5 so we can reap the rewards of our horrible 51-111 finish last year. I'm pretty sure we'll draft Carlos Rodon number one overall.

I'm trying my best to cheer for the Astros and I want to win games. If we called up Jon Singleton pretty soon to play first base that would inspire my confidence.

Please draft Rodon. Kid is going to have three TJS before he reached the majors with the amount NC State throws him.
