He was originally drafted as an OF by the DiamondBacks and then gave that up for pitching as early as 2007.

He was originally used as a reliever and made his MLB debut as a reliever with the Rangers. He was on the Phillies AAA team this year and asked for the opportunity to start and was absolutely lights out. He apparently had an opt out clause in that contract and exercised it when the Yankees offered him the opportunity to start today.
