so Harper had a -18.1 Defensive WAR last season, and -35 over the last 4

are they just okay with his defensive liability?

don't they need pitching depth?

He also had an insane amount of strikeouts and was actually -.8 on the wins above an average replacement player last season

Philly is hoping they get the old Bryce Harper back

In 10 years he'd be 36.

He's 26, what kinda fucking math did you do to calculate that he will be 33 in 10 years?

I meant 36 idk why I said 33 LOL

Math isn't a strong point but I'm not that bad lmao

He's one of many pieces added this offseason. It's not like we are banking on him carrying this team by himself.

Phillies added multiple legit current All Stars this off season besides Harper lol. The lineup is going to be upgraded big time.

A borderline .500 team last season should be much improved.....at least on paper.

Yeah, I guess I was ignoring all the other upgrades, McCutchen and Segura are studs

but aren't they still looking for pitching?

Forget McCutchen, hes a nice add (not MVP form but still solid) you forget we gave up our best prospect for the best catcher in baseball as well? Realmuto is legit, and can hit REALLY well...hes going to be hitting in the middle of the lineup for sure (4th or 5th).

Not to mention Realmuto is Harpers good friend, aka one of the biggest reasons Phillies were willing to give up so much to trade for him.

But yeah, pitching could use some love. Nola and Arrieta are the only two legit starters, and that's assuming Arrieta returns closer to his Cy Young form. The rest of the rotation is sketchy.

He's talking defense. Your team got worse defensively and is at the bottom of the league

I just assumed McCutchen was good at D, looks like he sucks as well

I didn't put Realmuto because he's a catcher

Not sure what point you're trying to prove but

Phillies lineup is so much improved from last season it's not even funny.

Adding 3+ current all stars and some of the best players at their positions can do wonders ya know. Hoskins isnt the only slugger in the lineup anymore.

This is a 90+ win team at minimum right now. Still moves to be made too.

"From 2009 through 2014, the Phillies' payroll was consistently $50 million to $70 million more than the league average. Then, as the crucial part of their rebuilding process, they cut it to $40 million below league average in each of the past three years. It's not just that a team of Philadelphia's market size can easily afford a player like Harper making $25 million to $30 million a year. It's that the whole point of everything the Phillies just put their fans through was to clear payroll so they could sign Bryce Harper(or somebody like him). It's not just a deal I like; this deal was something of an imperative."

This is one of those classic quotes someone saves and bumps at the end of the season.
