look at all these players season stats from last year or two years and tell me if they're better this year:
Contreras - nope
Happ - nope
Bryant - ok injured but games he's in not better
Russell - a BIG no. look at 2016 to now
Almora - tossup

that tends to happen. some players get better, some get worse, and some have down years or injured years.

but by all means, replace maddon. ill drive matheny to wrigley for the interview if considered.

lol does he at least play small ball?

what worries me is the names I mentioned are all young players. players who should be getting better as they are 26 or younger.

While I'm all for getting rid of madden; the down years from players have nothing to do with Maddon nor my decision as to why I think they he needs to go. It's his decisions, game-lineups, and in game decisions that tell me he needs to go.

With that said, everyone goes through bad years or injured years; unless you're Mike Trout. Baseball is by far the hardest sport to be consistent in and ultimately what makes it being the most difficult sport to bet on as well. Anyone can have a great one year (ie De Jong last year; insert just about any Cardinal hitter every year, Muncy this year, etc) and anyone can be just as bad. It's the potential that these guys have to put up above average numbers from year to year is why they start and why teams generally rely on top prospects rather than no-namers. There's always going to be someone who doesn't hit and there's generally always going to be someone that has a surprise great year to make up for it.

Nothing in Baseball is EVER a lock from year to year; ask Carlos Correa, Gary Sanchez among just a few.

I’m not saying the players I mentioned are because of Maddon, and you are correct in what you say about the game, but the guys I mentioned their numbers are Way OFF from before. Normally players should be getting better in their age group but they aren’t.

You do realize that Happ, Contreras, and Almora are all in their 2nd full season in the bigs right?

I'd chalk it up to maybe a sophomore slump. Contreras is still a 3 win catcher, and has posted better defensive #s this year that he did last. sure the offensive #s are down, but he's progressed behind the dish. Almora's #s are very close to last years totals, so idc where you get the notion that he's not improving (his dWAR/Defensive Runs Saved are higher this year too).

Happ/Russell, i will agree with you on, though Russell's value is on his defense, and Happ is only 23. Bryant is still probably hurt, but look at Javy's breakout, Zobrist is hitting well, Heyward has turned it around, and the SP has been killing it too.

Don't blame the young kids for not producing. If there's a blemish on this season, it's last offseasons signings that have hurt us more. Morrow, Darvish, and Chatwood.

oh hey we scored 1 run again via solo home run against the pirates (5 in a row against them) and hamels our pitcher hit the homer. who needs a DH with this powerhouse offense we got.
