I thought both pitchers would be garbage. Weaver has that old-man deception despite having an 81 mph fastball. Ubaldo is just shit, as I thought he'd be when we signed him.

Our bats are either very hot or very cold it seems. They should have beat the hell out of Shoemaker, but they made him look like Cy Young. Same with Weaver.

When was the last time we drafted and developed a successful starting pitcher? Erik Bedard? That was almost 15 years ago. (Not including Tillman because that was a trade, even if we did develop him). Since then we've had guys like Daniel Cabrera, Brad Bergesen, Brian Matusz, Zach Britton, Bundy, and probably Gaus all fail as starting pitchers. Crazy how everyone we draft is garbage or we fail to develop them. We're like the Cleveland Browns of starting pitching. I'm jumping the gun on Gaus being a bust; he could still develop, but it's frustrating to watch our most promising young pitching prospect struggle like this. Hope Hunter Harvey can develop, but he seems to be injury-prone.

Even the good ones we fail to develop: obviously Jake Arrieta... Jason Hammel has been good, and Eduardo Rodriguez, whom we'll be playing tomorrow.

I need somebody to talk me down off the ledge here lol

You made good use of Bedard getting Jones and Tillman + for him though. Britton is no slouch at all but watching Arrieta must be painful. E- Rod a bit too, but it is hard to fault a team for taking a shot at the chip and he has yet to have a meaningful impact.

Britton failed as a starter, though he's a good closer. That's where I see Gausman being in a year or two if he continues to struggle as a starter.

Just frustrating/amazing that everyone we draft to be a starting pitcher fails for one reason or another. Unless I'm wrong, Erik Bedard was the last guy we drafted who turned into a good starting pitcher, and he was drafted in 2002. Just crazy to think about.

Sox have had similar difficulties developing starters. Lester and Sucholz are prob the best/most recent. I am ready to call Owens a quad A player at this point.
