The race for the 1st overall pick in 2014

1. Astros 37-76
2. Marlins 43-69
3. White Sox 43-69

The White Sox have won 3 games in a row, the Marlins have lost 4 games in a row, while the Astros went 1-2 against Boston.
They ended up being seven games ahead in the loss column over both teams. Only 49 games left so they're in good shape.

Houston plays the Rangers four times at home, and then a nine-game road trip against the Athletics, Rangers and Angels.
We may very easily go 0-13 in these upcoming games but we'll probably go 3-10 at best, with 2-11 and 1-12 being likely.

So far this season, the Astros are 2-7 against Texas, 1-11 against Oakland and 7-6 against the Angels.
The only possible wins I see coming in these next 13 games are against the Angels.

What a series huh? Red Sox just kept on fighting.
That Grossman kid had hell of a series...
Why did Victorino get ejected? Did he say anything to the 3B ump?

Robbie Grossman has played amazing since being re-called up. He must have put what he learned going back to the minors to good use. He’s hitting just under .500 with three home runs, nine RBIs, and three stolen bases in his last eight games alone. But before that he really struggled and was hitting close to .190 so even with the recent hot streak his batting average is still at .265. He's 23 years old so there may be hope for him yet.

Shane Victorino was still arguing balls and strikes. He struck out with the bases loaded in the top of the 6th on a check swing from the third base umpire. In the next inning (top of the 7th) he walked onto the field from the dugout to argue with the third base umpire. It was pretty funny to watch and it delayed the game for about 8 minutes.

Astros and White Sox both had off tonight but the Marlins lost 5-4 in 10 innings against the Pirates.

That's now 5 losses in a row for the Marlins. Why can't the White Sox and Marlins both go on a winning streak at the same time? Just when one of them starts a winning streak the other team goes on a big losing streak.

I just want to clinch the first overall pick in next June's draft, have this season end and feel excited for Spring Training in March.

1. Astros 37-76
2. Marlins 43-70
3. White Sox 43-69

We have great team speed. We would have a nice little team if we played in another era. Like three decades ago.

We work hard for every run most of the time, even put up 10 and lost the other night, while Boston just made it look easy.

The Rangers will likely embarrass us during this weekend series. It's a four-game series that extends into Monday afternoon.
It should be an easy four-game sweep for the Texas Rangers: Garza, Holland, Perez and Darvish lined up.

I'm most looking forward to that Monday afternoon game with Brett Oberholtzer starting against Yu Darvish.
This kid has came out of nowhere and is pitching lights out since being named a starting pitcher.

In his two MLB starts since sucking as a reliever (2-0, 0.00 ERA as a starter), he has picked up two wins with 14 shutouts innings against the Orioles and Red Sox in back-to-back starts. That just happens to be the last two games the Astros have won. Maybe Brett Oberholtzer can tame the Rangers lineup and beat Yu Darvish.

I remember that Braves fan austinhb telling me about Brett Oberholtzer a few years ago when we acquired him in the Michael Bourn trade. Not going to get ahead of myself and call him great or anything, but hopefully he can keep it up. I certainly didn't expect him to shine like he has been.

Jarred Cosart is another guy that is pitching well (1-0, 1.36 ERA through five starts) but he now has four straight no-decisions and the Astros have lost all four of those games. He suffered his worst start of his young career by giving up two earned runs in five innings in his last start against Boston. The next game Cosart will pitch is on Wednesday Night at Oakland. I expect another no-decision. LMAO

It feels good to be getting some excellent starting pitching from at least a couple of guys. Soon we'll have Mark Appel and possibly Carlos Rodon giving us a pretty deep starting rotation. The future is very bright for the Astros. 2014, 2015 and 2016 at the earliest, they'll probably turn the corner very soon as a competitive team. But as far as this season goes I just want it to end already.

The race for the 1st overall pick in 2014

1. Astros 37-78
2. Marlins 44-71
3. White Sox 44-71

A good Saturday it turned out to be. The Marlins ended their six-game losing streak and also the White Sox won. The Astros lost their 4th game in a row and are now 4-17 since the all-star break. A seven-game lead in the loss column with only 47 games left to play.

LOL, that's only the song for the team we play against.

Even when we get good starting pitching and hitting, our bullpen keeps finding a way to blow those leads.

Chris Carter went yard in the bottom of the 9th. At least we avoided a shutout today. The final score is 6-1.

Astros, White Sox and Marlins all lost on Sunday. The good news is it's another game gone. Only 46 games left this season.
Bud Selig may as well allow the Astros to start negotiating a contract with Carlos Rodon as the first overall pick in June.

1. Astros 37-79
2. Marlins 44-72
3. White Sox 44-72

The Rangers will attempt the four-game sweep over the Astros tomorrow afternoon. Good pitching matchup: Brett Oberholtzer (2-0, 2.53) versus Yu Darvish (11-5, 2.72 ERA). Brett Oberholtzer has been amazing in his first two MLB starts, 14 shutout innings and two straight wins, after a couple rocky relief appearances. I think he may have found his calling as a starting pitcher. We'll see if he continues pitching well tomorrow.

The last two games the Astros have won, Brett Oberholtzer started, against the Red Sox and Orioles. LOL

We're going to hit 80 losses at this time tomorrow more than likely.

On the plus side: All of the minor league teams in the Astros organization are in first place, except one, which is in second place. A lot of the young talent is playing well. George Springer just reached 30-30 at Triple-A, Jonathan Singleton overcame his 50-game marijuana suspension and is starting to smash them out of the ballpark. Even Carlos Correa is tearing it up at the lower level. Mark Appel is playing on the same team as Correa. He has a 2.55 ERA over seven starts.

Another draft with the top pick in every round is going to be a bittersweet luxury. We're already stacked in the minors. Time for the big league club to start seeing the rewards of that. Hopefully on September 1 when the rosters expand we can call a few more guys up.
