Just some thoughts that were running through my mind
I hate to be 'that' fan, but I'm already looking towards next season
Tbh I hope AA becomes a seller at the deadline, and doesn't give up prospects for a player to make a playoff push. I would like to see Johnson and Buerhle traded if possible, even though their value is pretty low atm, starting pitching always seem to be in high demand.
For next season:
Bullpen:
- Looks great, wouldn't really change too much here; there may be guys we need to re-sign, haven't really looked into that. I hope to keep the same core as this year.
Position Players:
- For the most part I'm all for not changing too much here. I would like (if Lawrie stays at 2B) the Jays to pick up a 3B slugger who can handle the hot corner, if there is someone available to sign or through a trade.
Outfield
- I'm okay with how it is with rajai/melky, rasmus and bautista atleast for another year while melky is still under contract
Infield
- Ideally I would like New 3B, Reyes at SS, Lawrie 2B and Edwin/Lind at 1B
Catcher
- oh lawd. Don't really know if we can do anything here. JPA has been outright awful at times, and honestly it's his defence that I dislike more than his hitting. A.J. Jimenez is a good looking catcher; so maybe we can ride with JPA for a few more years and see what happens then... It would be tough to pick up a premier catcher, but maybe we can pick up an average catcher and split the time 60/40 between them.
DH
- Lind/Edwin, nothing wrong here
Bench
- Bonerfaceshow has looked awful, don't see him being around next year
- I'm happy with izturis on the bench, he can play a variety of infield positions and his bat has been hot lately
- Thole? Meh, read above
- DeRosa, I like him; great clubhouse guy and has come up with some big hits
- Rajai, my nigga
Starting Pitching:
- This is where is gets interesting; I thought we solved this issue last offseason, but apparently not. There are definitely a lot of questions marks here. Assuming Buerhle and Johson are gone, then we have Dickey, Rogers(?) and... a whole lot of question marks. I'm okay with sticking with dickey (sounds funny), I'm sure he can't do much worse next season. Esmil has looking good as a starter but can he keep it up? Really sucks that Morrow has all these injury problems; I don't know if he'll become a solid #2 again... time will tell. The rest of the spots, who the fuck knows. With all the injuries, maybe someone will step up next season: Drabek, Hutchinson, Happ, McGowan (?), Nolin, Jenkins... who knows. I'm hopefully AA brings in 1-2 more starting pitchers who have proven themselves (preferably not proven in the NL, because that doesn't seem to mean much).
Management:
- Never liked Gibbons when they signed him back.. He's like a drunk uncle who owns a farm in Texas or something similar. Can't really put to much blame on him and I doubt AA would fire him after just one season so anyways...
I'm hopeful and confident AA will answer many of these questions, thanks for reading
Hi Wine.
Hi Moofs,
I would like to respond to your post.
First of all, I would not sell either Buerhellel or JJ. Especially JJ. If you look at the starting pitchers available in the free agent market in 2014...the best available guys: Garza + Lincecum. Those guys will likely not come for cheap either, especially if they have strong second halves; and as we have seen with Lincecum, they can be just as shit as either of those two guys you want out.
I hope we do give up prospects to make a push. Regardless of whether that push is for next year or the year after, I believe we have a 2-3 year window to have a good chance at the playoffs. We should take advantage of this opportunity instead of delving another few decades of mediocrity.
Bullpen: Yes, it has been great. We are obviously going to regress however. It is inevitable we will see more hits given up...a lot more. I do like the core going forward though.
Position Players:I would like to rid of JP, I personally think everyone else has performed as expected.
Starting Pitching:You summed it up well. I am starting to become a believer in Rogers, he definitely is a serviceable pitcher long term. There has been shit thrown around about the Jays getting Garza. I hope that happens. Even though Garza becomes a free agent at the end of the year, I would like to give this team a glimmer of hope that they are playoff-capable for next year.
If we just 'unloaded' what will that be saying to the teammates who wanted to win this year? Bautista and Edwin will off-the-bat be upset and angry. That psychological stuff can backfire longterm.
Think about it.
