Hopefully they finally find a big contract that works because they've been a disaster with the big contracts they've given out.

Pujols
Hamilton
Upton

and Trout and Rendon deals are not good either.

Trout is good when he plays, but he's missed so many games the last couple years he's not worth it and nobody knows about the overall condition of his back, they've kept it pretty secret.

Rendon's contract is a disaster already. He's hurt even more than Trout plus is a league average player since joining LAA.

Horrific signings - agreed. I'm from Detroit where we gave Miggy a 5 billion dollar contract in his 30s so I get it. I just don't think you can miss on Othani. The two-way nature of his game suggests to me that if he gets cold from the mound or at the plate, you can simply shift your focus. Between that and his international draw, he's a once in a lifetime guy. Agreed that management needs to surround him. I'm sure they wish they could undo Trout's deal too, but that won't be as bad moving forward and if his back isn't as bad as some say then he should still add value.

I think the Mike Trout deal is far beyond repair at this point it's just too much money for someone about to be 31 years old and having significant injuries stacking up and potentially being a chronic issue like his back. He's going to lose value as he ages. A huge plus to Mike Trout's value is that he plays Center Field. It is so hard to find a premium bat that plays up the middle (CF/SS/2B/C) His time in CF is going to end at some point and that will take a decent amount of value away if he switches to a corner outfield spot or DH's more often.

They are so aggressive in any market it's crazy because I have no idea where they get all the money from to entertain everything. They are in the talks with Soto and that's gonna be close to a $500m commitment if they go for him.

i would love for the giants to go full send an go after him, we can afford to sign him. but i would be so mad if he went to the dodgers or pads

also, aaron judge needs to come home in the off season :D

Soto and Bell to Padres for:

pitcher MacKenzie Gore, outfielder Robert Hassell III, shortstop C.J. Abrams, outfielder James Wood, right-handed pitcher Jarlin Susana and Hosmer

Hosmer still needs to wave his no trade clause

Hosmer exercised his no trade clause as expected

Wouldn't mind if the Sox jumped in if the Padres eat majority of the contract and who knows, maybe they even add a prospect

The Phillies have now added David Robertson and Brandon Marsh, but continue to shop for starting pitchers.

Sources say they've talked to the Red Sox about Nathan Eovaldi and Rich Hill, and to the Giants about Carlos Rodon. And still in conversation with the Angels on Syndergaard.

Love the Marsh pickup. Only 24, under team control for a few years, and he was the Angels top prospect last year. Much needed defense in the outfield that's for sure.

I'm really surprised the Cubs didn't trade Contreras
