In 2012/13 the biggest contracts awarded were 6-7 for 200mil, as opposed to 8-10 for 300-330mil in todays era.
Don't forget Braun's 8/45 was in 2008 after just 1 year, that's roughly the equivalent of 8/120ish in todays era.
That is a valid point, younger players pre-arb have been signing much bigger deals than 5 years ago.
The only contract that I could think of was Longoria's who got paid big money.
