I don't think it would have implications on the pitcher, unless it's a pitcher that pitched the previous inning?, otherwise I don't see them counting it against a pitcher because like you said he wasn't responsible for the runner.
And who would the runner be? The batter that ended the previous inning?
Works both ways though, could go for the bunt/sac or try to get as many batters up as possible.
hmm, in regards to what you mentioned with there being no implications on the pitcher. i think it's interesting to talk about.
let's say the runner scores from 2nd and that team then wins the game, but the losing team's pitcher isn't charged for the run and also isn't given a blown save, then how can one say that the players were even responsible for losing?
and if he is given a blown save, the pitcher is definitely given the short end of the stick, right?
stats would have to be changed and the record books would potentially be affected depending on how they decide to account for the runs being scored and who the run belongs to, whether it's a blown save or not, etc.
i mean extra inning games happen kinda often. the rule
would save bullpen arms and time, but i dont see it being accepted by players. i think in large part, only the more casual fans would appreciate such a drastic rule change. i dont see it being implemented into the majors.
