They got that call right. They just fucked up the earlier one where a fan reached over the fence

interesting. here's a video from 2 years ago thats interesting.

catcher is blocking the plate because he has to field the throw, and i guess he did have a few split seconds to get out of the way but it mightve risked him making the out at home.

umpire rules the runner safe despite him being clearly out (which you'll see clearly if you watch the whole video). seems like after they implemented the rule to prevent collisions they have been modifying it, which lead to the rule that Fgs posted earlier in the thread.

good thing theyre modifying it because what else is the catcher supposed to do if he's fielding the ball? just let the run score ? i think the rules are correct in that the catcher can block the plate if hes fielding the ball. anything less and he'd be jeopardizing the out, and intent to block the plate isnt even relevant if he doesnt first catch the ball

its not like either player wants a collision

but from this video (2 years ago), i gathered that they are at least modifying the rule as they go. i dont think that "while catcher is fielding a throw" stipulation was a part of the rule back then or the ump wouldve been under extreme scrutiny for this call

Catcher was clearly blocking the plate before the flight of the ball took him into the base path lol. That video is a correct call. Dude was sitting in front of the plate before the ball bounced 10 times.

dunno what video u watched, but i saw a 1 or 2 hopper straight to home plate, and the catcher had it way before the runner got there.

He's allowed to block to field the ball. You guys need to brush up on the rules.

well ofc youre going to be objectively biased about the call considering youre a phillies fan
for all of us who dont give a shit, hes clearly in the base path before he catches the ball.

Which he's allowed to be. Read the rules I posted. I actually thought they would call him safe so yeah I must be real biased.

he was in the base line before he fielded the ball lol
you can catch a baseball without your entire body in the way. he could do like every other catcher has since the rule has been implemented and stay either behind or in front of the path and still catch the ball and swipe.
ofc they arent going to overrule the call on the field, and by saying that it was right because they didnt overrule is pretty stupid considering we've seen a ton of instances of the wrong calls still being stood.
anyways, was a great throw in a perfect spot and deserved to end the game on that, i just dont understand why they flip flop on the rulings so often.

Dude I'm not going to argue with you anymore. He blocked the plate in order to field the throw at the last second (just like in your pictures). The correct call was made and confirmed. And to imply that I'm biased but you aren't is laughable. You trash the ohillies every chance your dumbass gets.
