I like to think that he still had hope until he went to Seattle

Nobody is giving up three elite prospects for Chapman

The Los Angeles Dodgers were close to acquiring him, about six hours ago, according to some reports on ESPN and NBC Sports.

http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/14306299/los-angeles-dodgers-optimistic-deal-aroldis-chapman-cincinnati-reds

If the Astros don't step up and make their best offer soon they're going to miss out on the best closer in the business, Aroldis Chapman.

At this point, I'm just going to assume he's heading to the Dodgers. I don't want to get my hopes up for nothing, as always.
I'm not even sure what we can do? Craig Kimbrel became a Red Sox. All the big-spending teams are landing the premium closers.

Teams like the Red Sox and Dodgers can afford to give up top prospects because they can always sign the best free agents.

I'm impressed with what the Red Sox have done this off-season, signing David Price and acquiring Craig Kimbrel.
If the Dodgers land Aroldis Chapman, all I can say is wow! I wonder where Chris Davis is going to wind up?

The Astros will end up overpaying prospects for Brad Boxberger of the Rays or Ken Giles of the Phillies if Aroldis Chapman is dealt to the Dodgers.

Ken Giles is 25 years old and not enough sample size to really judge, but he's been pretty stellar and one of the best relievers in all of baseball in his brief big league career. He could turn out to be special but he's not a "sure thing" just yet and the Phillies aren't trading him for cheap.

Andrew Miller's name has been mentioned as well, but the Yankees aren't likely to trade him.
The Rays and Phillies, on the other hand, could be open for business with their closers.

At this point, I'll be happy if the Astros acquire Ken Giles (even at a costy price) but he's no Aroldis Chapman. Then again, nobody really is.

Prospects are just prospects, I don't think you can call any of them elite. That's just pandering. Chapman has the best arm of all time. He is worth great talent potential

I agree. He's worth whatever top prospects the Reds are asking for him. Kudos to the Dodgers if they finalize a trade for him.
Hopefully it happens pretty soon so the Astros can focus their attention to Ken Giles. I wanted Chapman badly. #Disappointed

Does the MLB care about that? I never hear them dealing with big controversies like that

Hopefully the MLB gets it right and handles it properly. We don't need a Greg Hardy situation like the NFL had.

He ain't worth shit with a domestic violence incident pending.

Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said Monday night that while the deal is not dead, it could take weeks to complete.

Tim Kurkjian was on ESPN Sportscenter and said he's been told by several people that the trade for Aroldis Chapman is not going to happen, and the Dodgers are looking at alternatives. Unbelievable. Watch the Dodgers now try and acquire Ken Giles from the Phillies.

The Boston Globe reported Monday night that the Red Sox, prior to obtaining San Diego Padres closer Craig Kimbrel last month, also had been exploring a trade for Chapman until a background check turned up the alleged domestic violence incident.

So it looks like the Reds may be unable to deal him until commissioner Rob Manfred makes a decision on a possible suspension. Which may not happen for two or three weeks according to Tim Kurkjian. How bad would any team look if they acquire Aroldis Chapman? This is a PR nightmare and this stuff isn't taken lightly anymore.

Chapman and his attorney both vehemently deny the allegations.

This is a tough situation. Aroldis Chapman admitted to police that he fired eight gunshots in his garage ceiling out of anger with his girlfriend but says he didn't choke her. As if if that's any better? Firing gunshots could always kill or hurt somebody.

Sources: At least one team that spoke with #Reds believes that Chapman might have injured a hand in alleged domestic-violence incident.

Also it's being reported that Chapman may have injured his hand during the incident but no idea if it was his pitching hand or glove hand. But since it happened in late October shouldn't his hand be close to completely healed by now unless it was a serious gun shot wound.

Really, really tough. I wanted the Astros to acquire Aroldis Chapman since early July (before the last trading deadline).

The Dodgers already have one of the best closers in the game to begin with which is frustrating.
We have freakin' soft-tossing Luke Gregerson. They don't need a closer as bad as we do.
Now it looks like nobody is going to acquire Aroldis Chapman. At least not for two or three weeks.
