I'm listening to Mike n Mike all morning on this. Buster is saying that the league wants to change the rule. They actually did change it in the lower leagues. But the union is fighting them on trying to change it in the majors.

My take on it, the league is making a powerplay here. By suspending Utley, even if it gets overturned, they bring attention to the situation and hope to put pressure on the union to agree to the rule change.

Either way, it's a fucking ridiculous situation and the Mets are getting hosed from every angle.

It might have been dirty, but almost everyone is in agreement that it is legal.

I agree that the rule needs to be changed, but you don't set a precedent now when you mostly allowed it through the season just because it is in the postseason and someone got injured. Wait until the offseason and fix the rules.

yep. i dont hate utley for what he did. most mlb players wouldve done the same thing, especially in the postseason.

its unfortunate he got hurt though.

He turns down a 1-game suspension, then isn't in the lineup. He'll probably pinch hit later, but it's still an odd decision.

He may end up having to miss 2 games at a later time when they wanted him to play full games.

I don't see a suspension being upheld because it was a legal slide.
