It wasn't the first pitch that he called that was a ball. Votto did the same thing in like the 4th inning; kicking dirt and strolling around.. and then did again and that's when he got tossed. Both were balls.


The umps this year have been terrible with balls/strikes. The zone is extended like 3-4 inches on the outer half every game for most umps.

Daniel Hudson tweeted earlier that if Joey complains about your strike zone, he's likely the one who is right.
