I'm a fan of a team that benefits from it (braves) but even I can see how shitty it is for the NL west.

Both giants and Dodgers are gonna get 100-105 wins this year. One of them has to play a wild card series in a best of 1 vs the cardinals. Which is basically a coin flip. One bad pitching outing or the other teams One ace going crazy can eliminate a team that would stomp the Cards in a 5 or 7 game series.

Then even if SF or LA win they then have the pleasure of having to basically play what should be the NLCS series in the DS instead. Meanwhile the braves will have an 86 win season and face a 97 win brewers team in a much easier match up for both of those teams.

TL:DR Make wild card a best of 3. And re-seed by record in the DS

Pirates had the 2nd best record in baseball the year they lost one game to be out...

The Cards had the best record, Pirates 2nd, and Cubs 3rd. Pirates and Cubs had a one game playoff.

This has been a common issue for years.

MLB playoff set up is shit.

They should do it like the NBA/NHL and have the top 8 teams in the AL/NL make the playoffs. 3 or 5 game series. Then winner of AL vs winner of NL in the World Series.

Perhaps juggle the divisions a little bit if need be.

I'm weary of allowing more teams in some pretty shit teams made it to the playoffs last year with the covid format.

The 162 game season is so crazy long its meant to separate the contenders by a pretty decent margin as is.

Assume the playoffs started today with the top 8 format, which ‘shit team’ would make it in that you’re talking about?

Look at 1v8, 2v7, 3v6, 4v5 match ups and tell me there isn’t a single bad series in both the NL/AL
