Only thing I can see here is that they saw how well he pitched later in the season last year, and they're hoping that's who they get.

He had like a 2.50 ERA his last 7 or 8 starts last season.

He will disappoint you plain and simple, he'll tease you and go on stretches of games with a low ERA like that and than just totally shit the bed or get injured

Phillies have so many infield prospects at the lower levels.

Red Sox were dumping salary, and the Phillies gave them basically a future hit or miss in return. It's a low risk move, not really make or break but Buchholz has the potential to be good at times which is more than enough for the Phillies. If he doesn't pan out then who cares.

Win win. Sox wanted payroll flexibility and obviously want to get under the "cap" this year. They are 12Mish under after arb and pre-arb raises. Phillies have money and prefer a one year contract. I don't think the prospect was even top 30 in their org (I couldn't find him on a list anyway). Best of luck Clay.
