They are a great team. The Astros need a little more improvement to be on that level.
The Blue Jays and Royals were the class of the American League in 2015. Hats off to them.

Taking the Royals to all five games in the ALDS was a sign of how close the Astros were.
In all three losses the Astros had leads of 4-1, 6-2 and 2-0. They just couldn't hold it.

An Aroldis Chapman or Craig Kimbrel, two trade deadline targets that we missed on, definitely hurt us.
Our bullpen ran out of gas in September and October. We had no reliable hard throwers left.

I'm ready for the Astros to have a good off-season and potentially win more games in 2016.
It's not going to be easy because I expect the AL West to be a lot better (all the teams in it).

But with the solid young core the Astros have all they need is a few upgrades during this winter's free agency, maybe work on a trade or two (they ran out of time during this past trading deadline), and they should be on their way. It was a long year like every baseball season tends to be. I had a lot of fun watching this team for all 168 games they played.

So many talented young players and impact rookies this season like Carlos Correa and Lance McCullers. Both have a very bright future. I expect A.J. Reed to burst onto the scene at first base in 2016. If he wins the job this spring he could be our opening day starter at first base as a rookie. Mark Appel may finally make his big league debut next year.

See you on Opening Day 2016! Until then it's going to be another interesting winter.
I'm not in a bad mood at all. The Astros accomplished a lot in 2015. It's the start of what's to come.

The Game 4 loss, in particular, leading 6-2 in the top of the 8th in front of the home fans.
Six outs away from the ALCS. That's the one that will hurt me the most all off-season long.
It felt just as bad as blowing first place in the AL West the final three weeks of the season.

Will Harris and Tony Sipp just couldn't get the outs. KC batted around for 43 minutes in that half inning. That felt long a nightmare that would never end. Especially the way they just kept fouling off every pitch (10, 15, 20-pitch at-bats), and then producing single after single. Four straight singles to start it off. That was before the costly error on Correa with the bases loaded that would have been an unassisted double play to limit the damage.

All we needed was a good hard-throwing reliever in that situation. A guy with "Strike you out" stuff.
But all we really have are finesse guys in the bullpen. A lineup like KC can foul off their good pitches.

But I believe young teams grow from those disappointments. This team's weaknesses can be upgraded this off-season. It's not like they have to make a lot of changes. Just a few good free agent signings or trades, along with more talent being called up from the minor leagues, will certainly put them in a position to compete with the best teams in the American League for 2016.

I think the damage was done in Game 4. That's when they needed a reliable hard-throwing bullpen arm. Up four runs in the top of the 8th. I didn't really feel confident they were going to win Game 5 at Kansas City even after taking a 2-0 lead. Dallas Keuchel pitched on Sunday. Three days rest. It was after he had only four days rest in between starts for the wild-card game. As good as he is you can't pitch so frequently and expect to be at your best.

How can it show again if it never showed in 2015?
