Horrible tragedy. My condolences and prayers goto the family and to the batter who is probably feeling huge remorse and guilt.

Does anyone know how this happened? All I can find is that he was hit in the head when he was getting a bat after a player got a hit..

But how did he get hit if the player already dropped the bat from getting a hit? Did the guy on deck just swat him?

The player probably had his own bat taking batting practice.
I'm personally glad they aren't releasing the extra details, don't need to bring a player involved and upset more than I already guarantee he is.

"[The on-deck batter] was swinging, and it hit [Carlile] in the helmet, knocked him down," Parks said. "He got back up, but he went right back down again."

Parks added Carlile was an avid Bee Jays follower.
