Go to your local sports shop and have them set you up. You can try out bows at most places for free, or just pay for time using their range(my local guy charges $3/hr to use his indoor archery range). If you buy a new bow, they can be expensive, especially anything brand name. I have used bows in my shop that are still worth $700, its not a cheap sport if you go new gear and high tech. I also have some older compound bows for as cheap as $100, with arrows and cases. You would want to know what your draw length is, that's how long it pulls back, and tells you what length arrows to use.So go to a pro shop figure out your draw length and what pound draw weight feels good and go buy a used one at a pawn shop or second hand store to try out and see if you really like it before dropping a grand on good equipment. I also forgot to ask if you are planning on just target shooting or hunting or what?
......... real talented archers use recurves or longbows but I love recurves and im naturally talented at not using sights. Recurves for a decent starter bow is about 150-200$ and bass pro shop if you have one will let you test at the indoor range of theirs for free before you buy
