2 part Question

A)

okay i see this.
http://www.footballlocks.com/nfl%5Fodds.shtml

Example:

DATE FAVORITE SPREAD UNDERDG TOTAL MONEY/ODDS
1/6 1:00 ET Atlanta -7 At Indianapolis 44.5 -$340 +$280

1)Now how do you convert that to 1.2:1 or whatever it would be?(looking for the "Equation")?

B )
This i think i understand but lets make sure.

If odds are 1.2:1 (Still using example above)
ATL would give 100
IND would give 120

Correct?

Thank you guys for your help.

ATL is the favorite..if the odds are 1.2:1 (Which they're not) Whoever is betting on Atlanta would be giving up the 120, and the Indy bettor would be giving the 100

If this is anything like how the hockey forum does it, you would take the 340 and 280, add them together to get 620, divide by two, and move the decimal to get your odds. In this case, it would be 3.1:1 in favor of Atlanta.

lol that's wrong.

imagine if it was 1000fg vs 500.

ez math says thats 2:1

with your theory that's 1500/2=750 and move decimal to 7.5:1 odds lol.

edit- your example is also wrong, 340 vs 280 is not a 3.1:1 ratio. its not even a 2:1 ratio :P

odd's are formed by how many people bet on the team...

for your 1.2:1 ratio, it would depend how much fg or $$ you want to put on the team.
like if you wanted 400 fg on the game, just multiple 400 by 1.2 and thats the number you would have to pay if you took the favored team.

the -340 and +280 is the american system of betting.
there should be a button for fractions and decimals if that makes it easier.

so in your example, saying if u put 100 bucks in, -340 is ~33% so you would only get 1/3 of the money you put in assuming your team wins.
so with a 100$ bet, you would get 34 dollars for choosing the favorable team.

however, if you put in 100 bucks on the +280, you would win 280 dollars.

hope that clarifies it a little.

I don't even consider decimal odds. -$340 means you have to put in $340 to make $100. +$280 means if you put in $100, you'll get $280 on top.

I feel like viva_la_nemo is getting at what's confusing you, so I'd ask him about the conversion stuff.
