I've started looking for a bike for the spring, not really sure what I want to get though.

Doesn't need to be full suspension, i'd rather have a hardtail actually just based on price.

Discs are nice, but not 100% needed.

Need something that will last and put up with some abuse.

i've been looking around like the 500-800 price range. Used is also an option.

Just need something that i'm able to ride to work in the warmer months, and bring along with on camping trips with the gf/or solo.

craigslist is going to be your best bet for a used bike.

you'll definitely be able to stay under your price range, or get a higher quality bike for the money if you're dying to spend that much.

I would agree with this.. if you spend 500-800 retail your going to get a fairly mediocre bike.

It would probably get the job done.. but spending 500-800 used//knowing somebody that gets cost (all bikeshop workers) can get you a much better quality bike.

Craigs list can be your friend, just be patient and don't be afraid to make the drive for the right bike, it can be worth it, just make sure its legit.

yeah i've found a few nice bikes for like 900-1,000 with full suspension, like 8 inch travel front shock. but its finally warming up (minnesota) so i don't have a need for it right away.
