What does something mean?
Odds:
Example: 1:1.5 odds
My Redskins Your Giants
For every 1fg you put up your opponent would put 1.5fg
Let's say that you wanted to put 100fg on your rangers.
-It would be your 100fg Vs. his 150fg because of the 1:1.5 odds
Now let's say you wanted giants instead.
1.5:1 it would be now(1.5 is on the left of the ":"
Your 150 his 100 is would be.

Spreads:
Example:
Let's say Redskins +4.5 Vs. Giants.
Final score of game:
Redskins- 25
Giants- 29
You would add +4.5 to the Redskins if you picked them, they would now have 29.5 points and giants would still have 29, You would WIN this bet.
Now if you took the giants you would subtract -4.5 and that would make you have 24.5 points and you would have lost this bet.
