You forgot resin, first off.

Secondly, have you ever seen a random hole drilled in a ball that wasn't a finger or thumb hole? That's called a weighting hole, and it's different depending on the bowler's throw. This isn't something you need to know to do yourself. If you're looking to buy a ball, make sure the pro shop salesman is one who will watch your throw so as to know where the correct placement is. The extra hole isn't necessary, bit in some cases it can provide extra stability and consistency to your throw, and will sometimes compensate if you're off target by one or two boards.

Most important thing when buying a ball is to get it from someone you can trust knows what he or she is selling. I've been going to the same guy most of my life after trying several different shops.

Yeah I've been thinking of going to the shop and asking for some advice but I'm trying to get one cheap from Amazon, and so ill write down the specs for it and see what he says about the ball.

The right ball for you really depends on your throwing style. I'd highly suggest going to a pro shop and throwing your current ball, or a house ball that you regularly use so that he can see your form. For example, do you throw slow or fast? Do you use a lot of reps or not many?

If you throw slow, but with a lot of crank/reps, you'd want a less reactive ball. If you throw fast, but without a lot of crank/reps, there's no reason to spend a ton of money to get a reactive ball, and plastic would work just fine. If you throw fast with a lot of reps, you'd wand something more reactive. Also, the kind of ball itself makes a lot of difference. It's not just the surface reacting with the lanes that gives you the path the ball takes; there are different types of cores for different balls that will make them hook differently. If the core is placed such that there's more weight on the side of the ball that's moving towards the pocket, it'll hook more, later. So really think about that when you're choosing as well.

It sounds like this is your first ball, so I would definitely say go to the pro shop and get pointers. Even if you don't buy the ball there, have him drill it for you.

Yes this is my first ball. Hehe I am a student at A&M and I took bowling last semester to fulfill one of my credits and I fell in love with bowling. I am learning hook bowling (don't remember the exact term) and would like to step up my game and use my own bowling ball rather than a house ball. I will take your suggestions to heart and ask my teacher if he can see what ball I would need. If he can't tell me, well there is going to be someone who can. Thank you for taking your time to type all your responses to my question!
