i went snowboard for the first time in colorado

i can keep my balance and go down the mountain without falling

but

i dont know how to lean and turn while keeping the board one side
i have to turn the board to turn left or right

i see people who just lean back and forth to turn
like curving

any tips?

keep ur weight centered and let the edge do the turning..they are curved for a reason with the waist width narrower to allow for better turning..especially with freestyle park boards

just get on ur toes and heels..thats why they call it a heelside and toeside edge. just remember to keep ur knees bent a little

to turn left (left foot forward), lean back SLIGHTLY and push your back heel forward. To turn back right, shift your weight back forward and push your back hell away from you.

Took me 4 or 5 2-day boarding trips to figure it out, lol.

yes this is the easy way but not true carving. good start though for quicker turning. you have to rely more on the board and the power u put into the front foot

It will take practice so dont worry about not being able to snowboard perfectly - Just remember to really commit yourself to switching from toe side to heel side - and dig your egdes in. Practice making lots of turns (even if its an easy hill just make crazy amount of turns) Then before long, you will be able to control speed simply by balancing one way or the other.

more based off weight and what kind of riding you want to do (park vs all-mountain vs free ride). there are tons of great brands out there lib tech, gnu, burton, bataleon, ride, captia, forum, arbor, nitro...i would suggest demoing if you can
