I never cared much for waterfowl, was more of a pheasant/quail guy myself.  Never liked duck or goose, and I tend to eat whatever I kill while hunting, so it seemed kinda pointless to me.  And the whole steel shot thing just really pissed me off...used to being able to drop something at 30 yards without running TT shot in a 3.5" shell, lol.

One other thing, those of you who hang deer/elk/etc.. by their heads...whoever taught you how to butcher was wrong, unless you're cutting the arteries around their ankles before you do so.  The residual blood left in the veins/arteries will pool wherever the lowest point is, and begin to rot the animal from the inside out and pool in all your steaks & roasts.  If you hang them by the back quarters (leave the hind legs on below the ankle, make a slit between the bone and the achilles tendon on each side, put the gambrel in there) the blood will pool in the head, which unless you're getting it mounted you will dispose of with the hide and bones.  You wont run near the risk of rotting, and cuts down on the amount of blood in your meat.  IMO, the only reason to head hang a deer or w/e is if you're planning on mounting it and don't want to fuck up the cape out job you did, even then, you can still hang it by the hind quarters, you just need to get it lifted high enough to make the cape out easier.

If you haven't butchered a deer hanging head down before, I suggest you at least give it a shot.  As long as you don't split the pelvis (there is no reason to do so on anything smaller than an elk, and even that is only necessary if you have to quarter it to move it out of where it fell) it is also far easier to butcher, imo.

i hang my deer from the head cause i dont let them drain like most. its normally still to warm for that in Kansas in Dec. So i take the whole 20-30 mins to butcher it and put it on salt ice water for 2 weeks then process it. This pulls out all the game flavor and majority of the blood.

this has nothing to do with this thread, and imo is a highly offensive thing to post, specially today.
please keep the spam to yourself.

thank you

Well some may find the all the pictures of dead animals offensive, especially today.
Also this is no spam - it has a lot to do with flying and dying.

If humans did not consume things that were once alive than we would not exist as a species. Prove me wrong or shut the hell up.

I really hope this is just a failed troll attempt because if you seriously think some rednecks hunting game is crucial for the survival of humans in first world countries you're clearly delusional. Prove me wrong or shut the hell up. ;)

I honestly don't recall the last time, the U.S. dominated a "war". Your incompetent fat soldiers can't even "dominate" unjustified occupations in 3rd world countries in the Middle East.
But well, maybe there was a war when the U.S. dominated Switzerland according to YOUR history books - and if there was one I'm certainly mad about it. ;)

keep arguing with your feelings and opinions like all these other ignorant people are doing. All you do is make and ass out of yourself and we get a good laugh out of it.

makes sense. i still prefer butchering with them hung by the rear legs, easier for me to get to stuff, although that may be just what im used to (been cutting since i was about 5 or 6 on deer, worked as a meat cutter in a grocery for a year, etc... and thats how we always did our stuff)

yeah i hang my cattle by the legs but we tend to butcher only in late dec or jan but its cold enough then to allow it to hang.

I also dont eat the neck on my deer i use em on my traps so i worry about that last.

I also prefer to hang my deer and let them bleed out for at least 5 days depending on the weather. Last 2 years it has been so warm here i had to make a hanging spot. This actually works guys. I made a 4x4 frame squared off and attached hooks to each corner, i had a sheet of ply wood on top and cut a hole just big enough for my chainfall. Then I made another frame and sandwiched a tarp in between them. this makes like a big shower stall in the tarp. I put a window air conditioner on the side at the bottom and let it run, instant walk in cooler legit Hill Billy style. Necessity is the mother of invention. We have a root cellar but wifey no likes blood in there, its for veggies and cold dry storgae.
