That is pretty strange. I read this in the morning and thought about it a little today. I assume with the size of the bass you are quoting you are in the south, because they dont seem to get that big up here in the north(bass don't grow in the winter up here). I have a feeling maybe most of the feeder fish were probably eaten up. With all those big fish eating everything smaller than them, they are probably feeding on the baby carp and when they run of them there's not much else to eat. Maybe that year was a bad year for the carp spawn and they had much less natural food and finally decided to go for your artificial bait. There is a lake a couple miles from my house that has huge bass in it for around here(5-6 lbers) but I can never catch them. The lake is called crystal lake because it is spring fed and its crystal clear, on a sunny day you can see 40-50 deep, its crazy. But I tried everything to catch them, artifical ,natural, even caught smaller fish and used them for bait with no luck. I hope one day I have the same shit happen to me where they are all hungry and I can catch them. I bet that was some fun times right there.
I'm in california.
It was amazing times... I stopped taking trips to clear lake, the delta, etc.. because this place was a 5 min drive from my house.
Id just load up the kayak and go.
I might try it out tomorrow and see how it goes, it touched like 70 degrees today.. but i still think it might be a little too cold.
