So your argument is that we suck at the most popular sport and therefore we don't care about it. I guess that's one way to deal with it.
And stop kidding yourself. The rest of the world doesn't give a flying fuck about basketball. Yes, some people may play it, but so what? Iran has a hockey team. That doesn't mean that Iran is a hockey nation.

U.S. sucks at soccer because nobody in the U.S. gives a shit about it....literally, nobody. They try to make it popular here but it's a dead cause, there's hardly any fans of it at all.

And basketball isn't an international sport? LOOOOOL. You're making yourself look fucking retarded now bro, LMAO. Basketball is huge around the world, not just in America. Look at China, they LOVE the NBA taking up more votes in the All-Star game than fucking Americans do rofl. And that's not even factoring in Europe and all the thousands of International Professional Basketball teams out there..

The NBA drafts a shit ton of foreign players now, have you seen any of the recent NBA drafts? Probably not, but they consist of a lot of non-American players.

I could see if you were saying that the NFL was not popular around the world, because it's not it's huge here but but not many places elsewhere. But Basketball in general? ROFL. Good talk bro.

Seriously, if Lebron James was a goalie no one would score. If our athletes dedicated their lives to soccer or hockey it would be a completely different story. The world is competing in sports the US don't excel in due to the lack of popularity. This is coming from a Division 1 caliber soccer player, so I understand no matter what sport you like or play, it takes talent to excel in them. I decided to take my football scholarship in NAIA football instead. I could even argue I would have had some division 2 scholarships in basketball had I played my senior year. You can't even compare athletes USA vs World.

Okay i lol'd

Basketball doesn't have the worst attendance of the "big 4" where do you pull this shit out of your ass?

It's actually the "big 3" and then there's hockey. No offense. I respect Hockey players and it's a tough sport, but it's not in the same league as NFL/MLB/NBA...Hockey has watched it's attendance drop in recent years. It's struggling that's for sure.

Basketball is played all around the world. The NBA drafts a ton of players out of Europe and other places around the world now with basketball and the NBA in general becoming so international...

There are so many professional basketball leagues in other countries. All those players have the goal in mind of making it to the NBA.

You're so clueless it's actually sad.

NHL attendence http://espn.go.com/nhl/attendance
NBA attendence http://espn.go.com/nba/attendance

Only 7 NHL teams are under 17,000 in attendence, two of those under sell out every game and are in undersized arenas (With extremely high ticket prices). Contrast that with the NBA where only 16 teams are over 17,000, and none of the remaining 14 teams coming close to selling out. 23 NHL teams have attendence percentages above 95%. Only 11 NBA teams do. The NHL is outperforming their shared market attendence wise in Chicago (The best NBA city in terms of attendence), San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, Toronto, Minnesota, Philadelphia, Washington, and Detroit. Thats 8 or 13 shared markets.

Ticket prices on average in the NHL are higher as well. Recent NBA numbers are at an average price of $48 a ticket. Recent NHL numbers are at an average of $62 a ticket. So not only does the NHL have better attendence, they have higher tickets.

Higher NBA league revenue comes from the fact the Lakers, Knicks and Celtics have massive TV contracts, which inflate the national NBA TV contract as well (Just like the Dodger's TV deal inflates MLB revenue). Hockey attendence hasn't dropped, it's actually NBA that has dropped. The NBA is a league of haves and have nots. The NHL is a league of parity.

Hockey is played around the world as well. Ice hockey international competitions are competitive, unlike basketball. There are eight hockey countries who have a chance to medal when the tournement is best one best. There are about 5, and the gold medal is all but guarenteed.

No...YOU are the one that's clueless. Maybe if you'd realize nobody was saying Hockey isn't played around the world you wouldn't of wasted your time with all that.

And also, you forget that the NHL has SEVEN teams in Canada. We're talking about popularity in the United Stated of America are we not? Hockey IS Canada's sport, they fucking live for Hockey and a large portion of the NHL's teams are located up there. Compare that to the NBA, which only has ONE NBA team in Canada...

In the United States of America there are 4 "major" sports. Football, Baseball and Basketball....then there's Hockey. NHL's popularity is isolated to certain cities, it's wildly popular in some cities while it's absolutely non-existent in most. But for the Country as a whole, it's not even close the NBA is more popular hands down this isn't even an argument.

Look at TV ratings, viewers, etc. The NBA playoffs blow the NHL playoffs OUT OF THE WATER in the U.S.. This is a silly conversation, there is no comparison in terms of popularity here with these two sports. I could understand if you were comparing Football/Baseball/Basketball sure, but Hockey? lol...

Remove Canadian teams attendance and you still have better general attendance. If the NHL wasn't close to the NBA, revenues wouldn't be as close as they are and attendance wouldn't be so much better.

Is that why the ratings and total viewers for the NBA shits on the NHL?

Have you seen recent NHL Stanley Cup Ratings in the United States? LOL. They're a joke.

edit: this is the first time I've ever had someone seriously try to tell me Hockey is bigger in America than Basketball LOL.

Oh and Caedus, let me put this joke of a discussion to rest right now.

The NBA Finals this past season despite being a lopsided 4-1 victory, game 5 saw 18.5 MILLION viewers just for that game.

The NHL Stanley Cup Finals? They averaged 3 Million viewers each game, so over the entire 6 game series they had less viewers (roughly 18 Million) than the NBA Finals did in just ONE of their games

Put that into perspective. Hockey is the red headed step child in the U.S.

Containing to make clueless and ignorant statements, I proved you pitifully wrong in your attendance argument so you start to make more absurd claims without proof. You've been talking out your ass, or possibly you've been watching ESPN too much

Face it, the NBA isn't much more popular than the NHL. Their attendance is laughable, the lack of parity and growth is sad, among other things.

You're viewership argument holds no weight, the two finals teams in 2012 had small local markets. Look at numbers from years with large markets. Game 5 on the other hand was the highest rated NBA game ever. An outlier.
