Building the rod holder right now. Spray in bed liner is holding on the wood much better than I expected.

Not a boat. I posted about it months ago, but just finally got everything during the week and put it together.

Used it tonight to go for catfish. Works really well. Had a bungie cord hold my poles to the cargo bar, buddy left his loose, so it holds them fine without any extra straps or anything. Right now I have a couple holes drilled in the bottom of the rod holders just to let water drain, but from how high the catfish rod sat (it's 8'6"), I might have to cut the bottom off one completely just for that pole to sit a little lower.

Looks good man. Also looks like it doesn't take up much space either. Nice job Eddie.

Fully removable - just that ratchet bar holding it in. Also made it small enough that it fits under the toolbox without sticking out. Really happy with how it came out.

Ya that's super convenient then, a little planning goes a long way, well done. I'll have to keep it in mind. I have been thinking about buying a new truck since I'm back in construction again, it just makes it easier.

I think all said and done it cost around $75 total. 8 ft 2x4. 4 ft 1x8. Two cans of bedliner for $8 each. 6 rod holders for $5 each. $15 for the ratchet bar. Definitely way cheaper than a premade one.

Depending on your rod length, you may want to make it even shorter than I did. Most of mine are 6' or 6'6" but I had my 8'6" catfish rod in there last night and it sat worryingly high.

You could add a holder at an angle in the leg. That's what I think I'll do for my salmon rod. That way it's facing backwards towards the tailgate not as straight up and down. I see from the picture there is an angle but I'm talking a way more extreme one on each side possibly for long rods.

True, could change the 2x4s to 2x6s to fit a holder there. Could also drop the height of it about 6" if I need to. You probably wouldn't even need a different rod holder for the salmon rod - just having it in the leg instead of the top would give you a way better angle. I originally wanted holders that had a little more angle on them, but for $5 these were too good to pass on.
