Toughest Sport - Topic

Only one right answer in the entire damn thread. I could class rowers/nordic skiers with that too. At least as far as physical intensity goes at least. VO2 max and buildup of lactic acid of these far exceed other sports.

I'm fairly sure that the Tour de France is one of the most intensive sports events in the entire world, if not the most intensive.

Of course it depends entirely on what criteria you see as toughest though.

Percentage of college and HS athletes that go pro. Stats:

Baseball: 11.6% college, 0.6% high school
Football: 1.7% college, 0.08% high school
Hockey: 1.3% college, 0.1% high school
Basketball: 1.2% college, 0.03% high school

It's basketball. They have the smallest teams. It's harder to make it into the NBA than any of those leagues. A third less of HS basketball players go pro than HS hockey players.
