I would stay away from Taurus 1911's, the price seems good but from what i've heard stick to ruger, springfield, colt and you'll be happy

Along with itzpookiie, my family also has owned Taurus. A couple, actually.

Granted, they're largely copies of other manufacturers' styles, but they're well made, reliable firearms, and the price point is hard to beat.

agreed
taurus makes great guns given a few mistakes
but every well known gun manu. made mistakes as well
the same amount if not more than taurus has(id vote the latter)

as an owner of many variety of guns, id recommend taurus to people
more than i would for sigs too

i dont know if that guy has owned a taurus or had a bad experience with them before, but so far it seems like he just "hears" things and goes with it
so far he hasnt stated why you shouldnt go taurus either

taurus also gives lifetime warranty btw

edit:
oh wait
he said "10mm > all"

plz disregard his posts

Seriously? 10mm is > 9, 40, 45 in every way possible

As for Taurus 1911's the price isn't much greater to get a Springfield or the like. Hell i'd take a RIA over a Taurus. I've personally never owned a Taurus 1911. however all i've read are poor reviews and had a friend sell his and get a colt rail gun.

you get a taurus 1911 for 550 and springfield (base model) goes for 700
taurus 1911 has more mods than springfields base model
skeleton trigger/hammer and the grip safety is better

how is 10mm >
just cause of the power?
there are more things that come into consideration when it comes to firearms

you cant make accurate and fast follow-up shots with 10mm
the gun is much heavier and bigger
the ammo is the most expensive(besides 50AE)
not to mention rare so you dont have variety to choose from

for pure power and no other use, sure go 10mm
but for all around effectiveness/purpose, 10mm is one of the worst ways to go

FBI turned down 10mm for a good reason

So... no first hand experience?

Sooo... what I'm hearing is: you've had no first-hand experience with owning a Taurus product.

I'm not trying to bust your chops, but without having so much as having personally inspected the fit and finish of a Taurus product, nor having gotten some range-time in to see how they shoot, I find your insistence of their products being bad a little unusual.

I'm not a Taurus fanboy, mind you; for handguns, I really like what Ruger and Springfield Armory have done (again, brands that our family owns, and/or I've gotten range time on.) However, I feel that you're unusually biased against a company and product that, it seems, you have no first-hand experience with.

also keep in mind every well known gun manufacturer has had bad reviews on their gun models before

glocks had bad recoil springs on their latest model and recalled all of them
sigs p250 was a TOTAL flop
rugers lcr's were malfunctioning/breaking and had to be recalled
kimbers love to eject rounds in your face
beretta m9's slides flew into soldiers faces when they fired the gun and these were mass produced/shipped for war

btw beretta sold taurus their factories which is why the taurus pt92, pt101/100 looks so similar to berettas 92fs/m9's
and they never had any recalls or malfunctions like beretta did

if youre saying taurus is bad
beretta must be TERRIBAD

I've never owned a Taurus, but my cousin has one of their .357s with the 6" full underlug, and it is the most accurate out of the box pistol I've ever shot. I was shooting empty 22 boxes out to 50 yards with it consistently once I figured the drop compensation...its just absurd. It won't give as good of accuracy with Winchester ammo, but everything else we've put through it has been spot on like that.

Have you ever shot a 10mm or owned one? Or are you just going by what you've read?
If so what handgun was it and what loads were you shooting??

Fast, accurate followups are just fine if you have a proper grip and don't limp wrist like a woman.
Ammo is expensive but that's fine.

FBI came out with the 10mm and dropped it because weak people couldn't handle the recoil

Granted the 10mm is a larger sized case there is a reason the .40 S&W is the .40 short and weak
Show me a 9, 40, 45 that can shot more versatile loads then these
135 grain@1600-1700 fps 767 ft/lbs to 866 ft/lbs
165@1400
180@1300
200@1250

These are just some of the different weights and velocities `
All this in a package no bigger then a glock 21
15+1 rounds give very little to be gained in capacity over a 9 and that's it

As i said i've never owned a 1911 made by taurus that doesn't mean i've never shot one and I do like Taurus products! I never bashed Taurus as a company just said stay away from their 1911's. My friends would not reliably feed any hollow points even after it came back from taurus. If you want a gun that shoots only FMJ then go for it his never functioned correctly without them. I love Taurus revolvers btw they did well with their tracker and raging bull series

ive shot 10mm out of eaa witness and glock
and if youre saying FBI dropped it cause weak people couldnt handle it
you basicly proved my point that it has no use other than sheer power
