True to some point. But also this is the major difference between these sports: NFL has very little support outside of US, while soccer is an undisputed #1 sports worldwide. That's why u couldn't have an international event, there's simply not enough interest from the rest of the world. The only team sports u export that's quite popular in many parts of the world is basketball, which ironicaly was invented by a canadian. And still it has nothing against soccer.
The reason that there couldn't be an international football event is because the U.S. would stomp every other country. You could combine every other country in the world and not find any selection of players that could match up to any team in the NFL.
I would have to say that football is not as popular world wide as soccer because of the people. Many people can play soccer, not nearly as many can play football.
