and in a gun state that allows concealed carry
that state most likely does not require you to have a concealed license to carry a gun in your car

your car is considered an extension of your home
you just cant have it out in plain view

IN does not allow someone without a concealed carry license to have a loaded handgun in their vehicle. Plus, he's in CA, so he's fucked any way you look at it for carrying :P

If you're liking the P226, consider the P225 (aka P6). Half the price for half the capacity, still feels nearly identical with a slightly slimmer grip. I like em quite a bit, tbh.

Hi-Power's are nice, but the only thing I've heard about the CZ clones is they are incredible, I would definitely look at those tbh.

If you like the Hi-Power/CZ clones, you might also consider a 1911 in 9mm. The phillipino's are turning out some nice 1911's for not a lot of cash, and in the event you do get one thats a lemon, their customer service has a pretty damn good reputation of taking care of their clientele. Plus, its a 1911, so there are loads of little tweaks and parts and shit you can do to it. Since you're in CA, I'm not sure about this, but since its a 1911, and the serial # that makes it an actual gun is on the frame, you could buy barrels/slides/etc... and have a few different calibers available.

Biggest thing to consider though is the 10rd magazine limit, a lot of what you listed is intended for 13-15 rounds in the magazine, so you're throwing away a lot of frame space (and therefor weight) by only being able to use 10 rounds.

/e: you can pm me about gun stuff anytime btw

tyvm

Clearly, I need to go out shooting to test them out, I just want to have a list of 5-8 guns that I'm willing to try. The 10 round limit is a good catch. I didn't think about that.

what are you buying a handgun for
recreational, home defense, or concealed carry
what is your budget
what caliber do you prefer

My budget is $1500 and I plan to use this for recreational purposes. I live in California so there is no chance in hell of me getting a CC license. Also, you are not allowed to use a gun for home-defense in California unless you are being threatened (practically speaking).

I prefer 9mm simply because the ammo isn't as expensive as 40, 45, etc.

Interarms 9mm

They're out of production but I found one for like 300 bucks and it's the heaviest handgun I own.

Military wise, most use the Baretta M9.

If Glock could make a gun with a decent trigger, I'd have a dozen. Until then, I'll find something that doesn't require me to unlearn two decades of trigger control just to hit what I'm aiming at.

Also, it specifically said in the OP he didn't want a Glock.

And, as jro pointed out, the M9 Beretta is the standard military sidearm, with some groups of exception (mainly special forces) who get to choose their own, in which case its very frequently...a 1911.
