id go with 9 or .40 just cause they seem easier to find and just as effective. As long as you are comfortable handling either then it shouldnt matter

why do people say this
if youre gonna settle for a .22 for "range fun" then you might as well shoot a bb gun cause the kick is no different and you'll REALLY be shooting cheap

.22 is good down the line when you get yourself familiarized/acquainted with shooting
then you can do drills with them and go advanced

i still have yet to buy a .22 cause i honestly think its a waste of money and space
only .22 i would get is an AR for cool factor

You're missing out if you never heard a ping of a steel target when you pegged it with a .22 at 150+ yards. It's extremely satisfying.

Also I'm surprised no one tried to figure out what he is going to be using it for before they posted their suggestion.

i pegged steel with 9mm at 150 yard :)
more satisfying

first gun shouldnt be a 22 unless youre 13 years old

if youre 21 and its your first gun
get something bigger

honestly it doesnt matter
yes 45acp does hit harder, but its all really about shot placement
correct shot placement with a 9mm and itll still drop a guy

i have all 3 9mm, 40sw, and 45acp
you'll have more control and consistency with a 9mm
and since 9mm is much cheaper youll have more practice time with it than a 45

I'm glad you posted this :) I don't know much about guns, but i'm interested.
I'm 22 now i figure its time.. lol
I was planning to get a Taurus 1911 .45 to start with, but now i might reconsider for a 9mm

taurus 1911 is an awesome gun
but like i said
45s are expensive

it really comes down to personal preference

if youre fine with the 45 price go for it

but youll get to shoot more and practice more with a 9mm for the same amount of money you spend on the 45

45 has stopping power
but i hit 3 to the chest at 15 yards with ease and no exhaustion/felt recoil
easy fast follow-up shots as well

buy a gun for self defence
kill some1
go to jail for 25 years

typical american thinking.

You really shouldn't post about something you're completely clueless about.

I would stay away from Taurus 1911's, the price seems good but from what i've heard stick to ruger, springfield, colt and you'll be happy

i owned a taurus 1911
its a great gun
great accuracy, great trigger, and you can actually feel the grip safety unlike the other 1911s you named
wind can basicly push down the grip safety on those other guns cause its so damn light which defeats the purpose

ruger BARELY came out with their 1911 so id wait on that one in case of recalls like their lcr and sr9s

if you have the money then sure, go for colt or springfield
hell you might as well go kimber

but for half the price, you cant go wrong with taurus 1911
