So, you're telling me Bolt is more a household name than Phelps and Armstrong? Where is your source for this claim? Please post it.

you have to realize bolt is not a US athlete like the others.
what seems more popular to you is not most popular in the world.
in any case he is a very very well known world record breaking olympic sprinter.
claiming he isnt popular or bringing the spot out to the public is hogwash.

Tiger is American. And he actually plays mostly American tournaments ( way more than international). Lance won the Tour de France, 7 times, in a row, which is one of the biggest sporting events world wide, pretty sure his name is bigger than bolts. Phelps won 8 Olympic Gold metals, the most ever by a single athlete, the Olympics are very popular world wide, pretty sure everyone knows his name that knows the Olympics.

And I never said Bolt wasn't popular or anything like that. If you go back and read, I've said he just hasn't done what Pre did for the sport of running (yet). My reasons: 1. He hasn't had time to amass 30 years of his legend. 2. He hasn't died tragically at 23 (which he just turned, so watch out).

The field in that race was the most competitive field in history

Records:
First race where 5 people ran below 20:00
First race where 4 people ran below 19.9 (3 were between 19.81 and 19.9)
New world record in 19.19, winning by .62 or more than 6 meters.

Overall: One of track's most epic owns in history

tragically dying =/= breaking records on the big stage and being the greatest sprinter of alltime.

i have news for you. Bolt was in the olympics too..

him being from another country, yet we hear about him all the time means a TON about how popular he is.

I never said he wasn't big. I'm just saying in retrospect to the sport of running, he hasn't had the impact on the sport like pre did.

Not really because

1) Majority of the world knows who Bolt is and don't know who Pre is. ( This is a fact you can write into a book )
2) Short distance sprints will always have more prestige and popularity than the long races.
