I'm just getting into training on riding. I have been a swimmer my whole life, and this year will be my first year away from it, and for some reason, I felt I needed a sport that gave me the same challenges.

I bought a used trek 1400 this summer for $300 (came with shoes, helmet, and stationary trainer). I had to replace the tube, and fix up my left shifter, but nothing horrible. And I'm going to need to replace my chain after the fall (maybe during the end of the fall).

I have been training mostly flat land, with a few hills. I keep track on www.mapmyride.com (user name is rusty486). I haven't rode in roughly a week and a half (because I had work, and couldn't make it to the LBS to get a new tube).

But my flat land training is basically because I head back to my college, which is in the white mt region of NH, so I'll be riding hills all day long.

Anyway, I have fallen in love with riding, and I hope to be able to race next summer, or at least join a team.

guys if your training on the flats you need to be integrating some interval training in at least once a week. just a heads up.

Mine is quite all flat. It's more so, just not mountain climbs. My ride ranges around 200-300 foot height, which isn't high at all, I know, but luckily when I get to my college, it's literally in the valley of two mountains, so it's always up and down hill!

Wow, I never pretended to know what you were talking about, so I hope you're not talking to me.

If you are, you're a dick, cause all I did was explain why I'm not worried about riding flat right now. Considering I move in 10 days.

Well then, could you please explain to me what interval training for road cycling is? Or should I just look it up?
