I live in the High Arctic and begin fishing each year around mid-April once its siting in the -35C's and tolerable again. Just too cold for my liking from Dec-March. Usually -65C with the wind.

Skidoo from April-June 20thish each year. Quad from end of June to end of Oct (depending how much snow is on the ground, people are also skidooing from mid-Sept forward). The Ocean also remains frozen until end of July so people Skidoo up to about July on it but the cracks become too big and block off most travels after that.

Always pulling a komotik since you always plan on staying out several nights and its harsh so you take adequate gear to survive. I spend most if not every weekend out on the land and travel some good distances.

Have lots of pictures if there's ever interest.

April - May the ice is usually 7.5-8 feet thick so I have a pretty good back on me running that auger all the time since Inuks are short and im one of the few tall 6 foot 1 people who dosen't have to take apart an auger and add extensions as the hole gets deeper or stand on a skidoo! Means I am drilling all the holes though...

Wouldn't trade the Arctic for much. Maybe the Yukon one day.

Primary diet here is fish so we eat everything we catch. Common is either dry, raw, smoked. I prefer baking or drying it with seasoning. Fish jerky is good too in the dehydrator.

Fairly standard gear up here for winter.

Beaver or Wolf mitts in the winter. Seal in the spring
Seal Mukluks with wool duffels until its wet then any skidoo boot.
Homemade or Canada goose parka (i rock a homemade) Needs a very large fur trim on the hood since you need to create a tunnel of heat around your face.
Homemade or Canada goose snow pants
Hat can be whatever since your hood does the work.

Canvas tent 7x9 is good and easy to heat. Typical heating since you're travelling, a lot of those dual burner Coleman stoves that use Naphtha. I travel with two always and enough Naphtha to burn multiple nights.
Caribou hide works best for floor / sleeping, its light and has a good R value.
Gas powered ice auger at least 33CC , preference is 8 inch since 10 inch kills you when its a 7 foot hole. If my fish cant fit up the 8 inch hole so be it.

Everything gets tossed on a 12 foot komotik. Some people use 16s but I don't go out for a week at a time hunting so I dont use a 16. I dont rely on hunting to feed me for the entire year like some do who are hauling multiple caribou or muskox back (field dressed).

In terms of fishing gear. Mostly just wooden hockey sticks cut up and used as jiggers. Any spoon will do, 5 of diamonds, red devil, whatever. We have a mass abundance of wildlife and almost no humans and no commercial harvesting. You can catch them with anything. In summer I do some casting once the lake ice melts again just with spoons and it works great. No skill or fancy gear required. Just heavy line and spoons.

Ill toss up a few more pictures in a bit. My face is in a lot of them so I don't really want to post those. I don't know how graphic I am allowed to post since I have some whale pics but their heads are cut off , same with caribou.

Theres a lack of winter pictures since its just too cold to use my hands on my phone.
