Just got the gf's reel and mine loaded with new line for salmon season. Now to find two poles and two trout reels, blew both my salmon poles up last year so I'm using my reels on my trout poles.

So far this year I've redone all my poles: halibut (new line and oiled), ocean pole (new line and oiled), micro pole (new line and oiled), BRAND NEW fly rod (to me, brother in law gave me it), and the two salmonreels loaded with line and oiled.

what kind of fly rod/reel did you get?

I'll have to check when I get back home. Not an expensive setup but it works. Hope to be able to do a lot of fly fishing this summer while camping. Don't expect to catch anything but I just started fly fishing so the fun part is still there lol.

if you have any questions holla, I've been fly fishing for about 5 years now it's a blast! much more fun than a spin rod.

When you get a 20"+ trout or salmon on a fly rod you will never want to pick up the spin rod again.

I've kinda lost my love of a spinning reel since I picked up my baitcaster. I have so much more control over it. I hardly use my spinning reel anymore.

lol

i never used a baitcaster, though I know they are generally better for bass fishing. I think braided line works better with a baitcaster.

I'm a bass fisher. So yea it works well with me. I can burn baits and slow them way down with the same reel. I just recently started using braided line. I put 50# test on there. Working perfectly so far. It casts so damn smooth its insane.

Please tell me you're joking. 50# test is pretty fucking crazy.
I use 20# test in my ocean salmon pole and I feel that it's a bit much.

yeah 50 lbs test is massive overkill for bass...

I use 8 lb test for bass fishing (mono). I do have a few break me off but only because they dive into heavy cover/weeds/lilly pads/brush etc.

Though, Braided line is much stronger per diameter compared to other lines though, so 50 lbs braid is the equivalent of using like 12 lb test mono line.

iiTzChunky if I were you I would decrease the size of your braided line to 20 lb or 30 lb, you'll be able to cast even farther and you'll probably see your catch rate go up.

It's the same diameter as 12 lb mono. Prevents those backlash es that dig into themselves. I've tried 20 and 30# test and the backlash just digs in so bad you fuck yourself. With 50 I ha e no fear of pitching into any brush pile and being able to pull a fish out and no worries about a backlash so bad I cannot get it out without cutting it.

The 30# I used just bit into itself so hard I couldn't get it out so I ended up throwing it on another reel. I'll probably dial it back to 40# after I get the feel for it, just started using braid about a month ago.
